Review content:
New. Clean. Well laid out. Excellent food choices. Bright, light & cheerful. Decorated like a cross between a 5 star hotel and a cozy (but large) home. Staff is excellent. Friendly, helpful and seem to genuinely care about 1. their residents and 2. their resident's families. Always willing to listen & adjust. More planned activities than usually found in assisted living. Spacious & attractive outdoor courtyards at both the entrance and the back of the building. Ample outdoor seating. Concrete walking path in large back courtyard. Under the best of circumstances a move is an extremely stressful time. When it's an older person moving to assisted living rather than independent senior living because of health, mobility or cognizance issues there's always at least some tension on the part of both the individual & the individual's family. The staff is very aware and sympathetic to this. The staff works diligently to help make this transition less painful & more joy or at least contentment oriented. With truthful and complete input from the family and resident this transition can be made even easier. Specific plans are taylored for the individual's needs. Having cared for my Mother, an Aunt, my Mother-in-law and an older friend both in their homes and later in assisted living, I can say the Canoe Brook has so far been at the top of the list. Both as a facility that sees to the physical needs of the resident & also the spiritual and emotional needs. And isn't that what we're all looking for? My Mother-in-law has been a resident of the Canoe Brook for the past 7 months. I give them a A+ She probably gives them a C+, maybe a B-. But that's really, really good!
