I recently had this experience with a painter in McKinney, TX known as Obier's Painting and Drywall. The owner is Chris Obier and he was subcontracted to complete a job in McKinney. The job was to finish a staircase, bathroom vanity and other minor things around the home.
The finish on the staircase and bathroom vanity were shoddy and that is an understatement. Chris Obier did the work himself and bidded the job at $600.00. We agreed he would be paid half up front and the other half when the job was completed. I made the mistake and paid him in full after the first week. He assured me he would be back on the following Monday to complete the job.
The following Monday comes and Chris Obier is nowhere to be found. No phone call, no text, nothing. I called and texted him numerous times with no response. The next day I did the same only to get a text from Chris telling me he was sick and could not work. The same on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. He again promised he would be there the the following Monday.
I texted him on Sunday to see if he was going to complete the job on the following Monday as he promised. He replied back with a "no". and no explanation. I had to call him from a different phone number to get him to answer and his excuse was he was too busy with other jobs and would not be back to finish the job he started.
As far as the workmanship provided by Chris Obier it is something a seven-year-old could have done a better job. There are runs in the stain that have to be sanded and stain in the grout on the tile that will not come out. The finish has runs and looks awful. Chris Obier has caused far more monetary damages in his poor quality of work than what I could have hired a professional to do two times over.
My advice to anyone considering hiring Obier's Painting & Drywall owned by Chris Obier is to avoid this
