Review content:
I had several pleasant meals at Simon back when it was at the Hard Rock. Nothing special: but food was always clean and fresh and service was always professional. Not so at his new outlet at the Palms. My #1 problem is that the menu really hasn't changed...ever. So what maybe used to be innovative Asian fusion is now SO tired and bored and there are so many people who do it better. The one special that looked intriguing: a white truffle polenta (reasonably priced at $20) was sold out--(and really, it's a shame to sell out of white truffles because it makes you look like you're either a cheapskate and didn't want to lay out the money for them, or you don't have the clout to get enough!) Now to the service: the hostess was warm and friendly and one waiter seemed great, unfortunately I didn't have him but at least he noticed I had no utensils when my main course came, and addressed it (my waiter was nowhere to be found.). I understand the benefits of casual, understated service, but this is too casual to the point where they don't really seem to care about the food, or you (with the sold exception of the captain who came by several times and each time called me something like 'chief' or 'champ'--now why would anyone thing that would be proper or appreciated. I'd never go back again. Pros: Pretty room Cons: Overly casual service, sub-par food, boring menu
