Melissa was our Hygienist today, and she did a fabulous job. This was our son's first cleaning, and I was extremely apprehensive about the whole thing, given my son does not brush his own teeth, and it's often a struggle for me to do it for him (and also the fact that he's autistic). (I should note that we had gone to another dentist, via Kaiser Child Health Plan, although it did not work for her or for our son. This dentist advised that our son must see a pediatric dentist, and this referral was made to Dr. Sabbadini.) In any case, our first appointment was smooth as silk, as the doctor had no problem doing what he needed to do to see within our son's mouth and determine that all's well. (Also, and perhaps most importantly, the staff took the time to spend relaxing/positive time with our son to show him various equipment, chairs, etc. Thank you!) Our cleaning was scheduled a few months later, and it was virtually no problem for our son. He did complain from time to time, although Melissa was wonderful to sing along with me, while keeping him calm and finishing her work, all within 15 minutes or so. She recommended that we begin using a little bit of fluoridated toothpaste, as we've been only using Tom's, since our son swallows everything. She also gave me credit for taking good care of our son's teeth, and I appreciated that.
