Review content:
There have been a series of recent "price upgrades" to the same old tired menu at Joe Fish in North Andover. It's possible that the underlying costs of producing the meals has risen, but along with the price change the quality did not follow. When you pay $30-$35 per person for a starter, an entree and a cheap drink..you frankly expect better quality than what you get. Myself and a guest ordered 2 starters, 2 juice drinks, and one entree to share. The total bill for the evening was $68 including tip. The steamers were well prepared and the presentation was simple..as you might expect for this type of restaurant. We also had "Buffalo Style Catfish strips". I love spicy food, but this sauce was really overpowering the catfish..and thank god it was..that is, unless you like frozen catfish..from last season. There was an abundance of celery sticks and carrot sticks..all of this wonderful mess piled upon a bed of wilting greens that really made this dish far more complicated that it ever should have been. We ordered the shrimp and steak tips for the entree. When the dish arrived I thought "Uh Oh"..when I saw both large steak tips and smaller thinner cuts. Sure enough..the smaller ones we well-done and the larger were nearly raw. We sent it back, but apparently nobody wipes the grill until the end of the day (or possibly week), since the tips came back with all sorts of new charcoal on them. The "homemade" mashed potatoes were probably from the night before since they would also serve well as a binding agent for bricklaying. Again, all sorts of scary wilting greens under the servings on the plate. Presentation was sloppy and uncaring..Hopefully Joe Fish will stop hiring parolees and start looking for a well-schooled executive chef. Some changes in the menu and a little bit of pride in the serving would go a long way too.
Pros: plenty of parking.
Cons: poor value for the money. Tired menu.
