I have never run into a situation like this before. Was with my old dentist for many years, but switched to AMERICAN DENTAL CONCEPTS because of new dental insurance program. Chose the office at 1003 Baltimore Pike, Media, PA and was seen by Dr. Blumenthal. It had been about 7 months since my last cleaning so made an appointment at the new dental office. On that visit, instead of a cleaning, I was told I needed a crown. After I paid $575 to have that work done, I returned for a second visit to have the cleaning. On that second visit, I was told that I needed a cavity filled and was charged $63 although the filling was covered by insurance. I returned for a third visit to have my teeth cleaned. Now I was told that I needed a scaling -- cost would be over $600. I told them that I did not want a scaling, that I wanted the cleaning that would be covered by insurance. I was told that I could not have a cleaning, that I had to pay for the scaling. I am enraged that this office is trying to force me to have a service performed that I don’t want rather than the service that is covered by my insurance. It seems they are only interested in performing the high ticket procedures. It's almost as if American Dental does not want to perform the services for which they are paid only the contracted amount by the insurance company. Instead, the patient is pushed to have services performed for which American Dental can bill a higher amount. With this office, I feel I am not even in control of my own dental care delivery. Dr. Michael Ayes is the CEO of Dental Concepts. If anyone has “linked” to him on Linked In, please let him know of my extremely poor opinion of this dental organization.
