When my mom had a heart attack two years ago, Dr. Patel is the one who diagnosed it. Because she couldn't believe she was having a heart attack, my mom told him she was going to go home. He simply laughed at her and said she wasn't going anywhere! On top of that, he was able to talk my very stubborn mother into going to Orlando via ambulance for a heart catheterization. She has always been very healthy and fit so it was hard for her to grasp the fact she was having a heart attack. Dr. Patel is one of the few doctors who would have been able to convince her otherwise. My mom was in CICU in Orlando nearly three weeks. After returning home, Dr. Patel continued to see her for follow-up care. He prescribed a cardiovascular exercise program for her when she was ready for that. I took my mom to all of her appointments with Dr. Patel and was in the hospital room when he told her she'd had a heart attack. I thought he was very patient and kind in caring for her. I also think he is very knowledgeable when it comes to diagnosing and treating heart attacks. I also have quite a few heart problems due to having muscular dystrophy. The cardiologist I saw for over 20 years retired several years ago and I've been trying different cardiologists since then, trying to find one who suits me. After seeing how terrifically Dr. Patel cared for my mom, I decided to go to him as a patient myself. I wasn't quite as happy with him, however. My problems are unusual and not understood by many doctors. Most neurologists never see a patient who has muscular dystrophy, let alone cardiologists. I think he is a doctor who truly cares about his patients but after seeing Dr. Patel several times, I felt he couldn't get a grasp on what my problems were and how the dystrophy affects all the muscles in the body, including the cardiac muscles. I've since begun seeing another cardiologist.
