Review content:
That Venetian palace on 8th Avenue in Park Slope? It's the Montauk Club, named for the Montauk Indians, and once the club of Brooklyn's elite, at the turn of the century. Now the club only controls the first two floors of the building; the others are sold/rented out. There's less reason to take food/drink at an urban club these days, so membership has diminished. While I am not a member myself, I've enjoyed visiting, on days when the club is open for lectures or exhibitions, and I've eaten there with a friend who's a member. And the place is available to be rented out for parties and functions. Worth a visit--it's a nice trip into old Brooklyn.
