The California State Railroad Museum is quite possibly the world's best and most impressive railroad museum. Ogle the massive and gleaming locomotives here, and don't miss the free guided tour explaining the Western (Central Pacific RR) portion of Transcontinental Railroad. The only other train museum on the planet that can compete with CSRM is the National Railway Museum in York, England. This collection is a national treasure.
