Review content:
I responded to their telephone offer for the $9.95 furnace inspection since I hadn't had the furnace looked at in quite a while. I asked them to install filters at an additional cost. The technician came on time and got right down to business. After about 30 to 40 minutes the tech came up and told me there was a recall on the heat exchanger due to the exchanger shedding telflon. The teflon sheds and blocks the drain causing moisture to build up in the furnace causing damage and possibly causing carbon monoxide to escape. He cleaned it up and made sure there was not a problem.
Tech quoted me a price off of the top of his head for a new furnace. My furnace is over 20 years old and I knew I would be replacing it soon. I told him to write me an estimate so I could do some comparison shopping. He told me to give him a call when I have other estimates because Roy's does so much more than just install a furnace that he wanted to make sure I was aware of what the difference in cost would be between Roys' estimate and other estimates. Should have been the first warning. I told the tech I would call him.
A few days later I noticed my fan would not stop running. Mind you, my furnace had performed perfectly all winter. I called the tech back and he came out to check the furnace. After about 10 minutes he comes up and tells me that the teflon shed, caused the drain to become plugged and water came into contact with the circuit board which is causing the fan to now run constantly. He says he can fix it but the board is $650 and that it would be better to replace the whole furnace. I thought, hmmmmm, how convenient. I told him I did not have a problem all winter but now I do since he serviced it and now he wants to sell me that furnace. I asked him how it could happen if he cleaned it up when it hadn't happened all winter. He had no answer. I felt as if I was scammed. Didn't have them install a new furnace or a new circuit board. I would rather hire a company I can trust.
