Old Brick is a historical treasure that anyone who lives in Iowa City can attest to. Built in 1856, Old Brick is widely known to be the 2nd oldest building in the Iowa City area and also one of the only buildings to still stand from Civil War times. Every student who passes through the University of Iowa learns at one time or other the history of Old Brick, as well they should. She is not only a beautiful building but a historic treasure as well having been placed on the National registry of Historic places in the early 1970's. Located at 26 East Market Street, on the corner of Clinton St. and Market St, Old Brick is a "must see" for locals and visitors of the Iowa City area. It is rare to see a building as old as this, still in use, so it should be experienced by all who have the chance. Used for breakfasts, meetings and a favorite of many for weddings, Old Brick sees it's share of people throughout the year. Restorations are an ongoing project for Old Brick and are funded by the public and by grants as well. To aide in the fund raising effort, ask when you visit how you can help or visit their website for details. In short, visit this historic treasure....in this uncertain time we live in it can be refreshingly reassuring to see a building such as this which has withstood so much, for so many years.....If only the walls could talk!
