We wished we had more carefully checked Dave Terpening's references before hiring him to design our single-family residence remodel. He was extremely difficult to work with, arguing with us when we had ideas, not completing work when promised, and demanding that we pay his bills immediately on the spot. We also noticed that his designs lacked creativity and he didn't follow through on everything he promised to complete despite repeated requests. He also didn't inform us when his charges went over the estimated amount in our contract - - until we received a bill; he cost twice as much as his estimate of services!! When we objected, he threatened to delay our project by pulling the permit, which he filed with the city in his name at his insistence. Furthermore, we were shocked when the city inspector came to the completed job site with his measuring tape and told us that part of the architect's remodel design was "not to code" (the inspector looked at the blueprints); we had to rebuild that part of the remodel at our expense so it met code. Mr. Terpening didn't even apologize for his mistake. We truly regretted hiring Dave Terpening.
