Review content:
Aubrey Kemper is the wood artisan who owns the Sawdust Factory. I hired him in March 2009 to custom-make my retail shelving and to customize counter surfaces for my salon in Menlo Park
The recommendation came from multiple sources who have hired him for large remodel and kitchen cabinet jobs. His work was so highly praised that I went with him.
When I first met Aubrey it was clear that he's a bit of the ol' hippie type with the long hair and the van with Grateful Dead stickers and all. I have been around enough to suspend all judgments, and am glad I did.
I found Aubrey to be very fair with his price for the quality of his work. He's a good listener and is rather creative. I loved the recommendations he made--it shows that he knows what he's doing with construction. I wanted all wood and he talked me into a laminate that I could wipe clean. After four months I am so happy he talked me into this and especially appreciate with the manner he went about it. He also created a design that I can change into quite a number of other display options that add great value to my business, so if I expand or move, the shelves will have long term use for me. This was another of his recommendations.
I liked the little extra touches he did for me like to create a new window sill to tie in the look of my front counter--it was included in the job. He also took the time to teach me how to lubricate a key hole with graphite to keep a lock he installed working well into the future. I also appreciate how willing he was to work within my budget.
I want to also point out that he was noticeably good at cleaning up after himself. I also noted that Aubrey smokes but he is a very considerate smoker. It took me some time to notice this about him. I valued his respect with this for me and my business, and in turn, I have respect for who he is.
Aubrey is the type of guy to hire for work that is beyond the prefab stuff you buy at Home Depot. His is custom work that will last and service it's user well. Five stars for this guy because he has done three major things for me and I am very happy with his work.
Pros: Quality Work
Cons: See review
