Review content:
This place is one of the best places in Ventura County that I've been to so far. It even smells better. You know how you go to some sushi restaurants and there's a strong smell of ingredients? This place has a much more subtle and cleaner feeling version of it, so you don't leave stinking of it. I mainly ate just nigiri (sushi deluxe A) and it was good. It was a little different though because the rice tasted a little sweeter than usual. The california roll pieces were ridiculously huge. I also ordered the uni and the giant clam nigiri. I dont' eat giant clam often, so I can't really comment on it, but the uni was rather good. The house sake tasted a little mild, but that was the weakest part of the experience (no pun intended). It wasn't bad. I just like a stronger flavor. My friend had a plate of spicy scallops and she raves about how it was the best she ever tasted. I'll definitely go here again.
UPDATE June 2007: I visited this place again and wasn't very happy with the food. The uni was still great, but the waitress got my order wrong. I ordered the sushi combo again, but she gave me the sashimi combo instead. I ate it anyway since I haven't had it here before. I didn't like it too much. At the end, I didn't finish my daikon (I think that's what it's called), b/c I was very full since I also had some other sushi I ordered a la carte. The waitress bugged me about not finishing it by saying that it's good for digestion and blah blah. I was already unhappy about my meal, so that bothered me even more. My friend got her to leave by saying that he'll eat it. So now, my rating is that the food still is one of the better places for the VC, but I would rather go into LA if it's convenient.
Pros: good food; friendly employees
Cons: ambience felt a little sterile; waitress bugged me about not finishing my daikon
