Businiess name:  Italy Cafe
Review by:  Julia A.
Review content:
When I moved to Salisbury in 1994, from the Midwest, I had the choice of nationwide pizza chains and several unappealing buffet-style local chains for my pizza or Italian food. Eleven years later, Salisbury boasts several "New York Style" restaurants, both dine-in and delivery/carryout. Italy Cafe was the first of this new breed of pizzerias and Italian-style eateries offering a close approximation of the food available in the Big Apple and surrounding areas. (I spent my childhood outside of Manhattan, and have fond memories of such food.) While a crop of these new breed of restaurants is mushrooming in Salisbury, Italy Cafe remains my favorite. The staff are unfailingly polite and glad to alter an order to please, with a large menu offering food ranging from soups and salads, a large variety of pasta dishes, pizza, stromboli, calzones and sandwiches- plus appetizers and desserts to round out your meal. While I have ordered primarily pizza, I have sampled other items on their menu, and found them excellent. The cost of their offerings is quite reasonable, and for a fast frugal lunch, large slices of pizza are available. Or if one is health conscious, a soup and salad are fresh and inexpensive. Vegetarians also have a range of choices for meals or snacks. I have found the delivery to be fast and friendly, even though I live six miles outside Salisbury and wasn't a sure tip at first. (Although I do tip 20%, mainly because food delivery is a tipped profession, but I received the added bonus of truly superior service once I was recognized as a dependable tip.) On the occasions I have walked in for carry out, the restaurant was clean and orderly, and my order prepared promptly. I do always request my pizza extra thin, which to my mind is closer to the "New York Style" I recall from childhood, and the cook has unfailingly obliged me. If a person is in the area and looking for an inexpensive, quick meal- ranging from healthy to indulgent, I heartily recommend the Italy Cafe. I especially recommend this eatery to Northern transplants from the Eastern seaboard. Should, for some reason, it not be your cup of tea, at least the meal was inexpensive. If, on the other hand, you enjoy their food as much as I do, there's a large menu to sample.
