I started taking my dog to see Dr. Bryant when he roughly 2 years ago. Previously, my family and I had taken all of our animals to see another vet for several years. So, when I got Cadillac at 7 weeks old, this was the vet I used. When Cadillac was a puppy, the vet and his staff were great. However, when Cadillac reached the point of being full grown, things changed drastically. I believe the vet's exact words were: "I just don't trust a pitbull."
The vet became quite rough and nasty acting towards him. it finally reached the point where Cadillac would start trembling when he saw parking lot approaching. The last straw finally came when I took him in one day after he had gotten stuck in some thick briar bushes. He was bleeding pretty badly and had 2 nasty gashes on his front legs. The vet closed up the gashes with what appeared to be construction grade "staples." While, I didn't exactly appreciate the fact that my dog appeared to have been treated with heavy duty construction grade materials, he's the vet and I'm not. And I could have let this go....except for the fact that he apparently didn't see the need to use anything to help with the pain, or even numb the immediate area where he "stapled."
After this trip all vets were officially at the top of Cadillac's "axis of evil" list...and mine as well for that matter. However, Cadillac is line bred. So,if he isn't throwing up for no reason or breaking out in allergy related hives, then we're in the vet's office for some other random health issue. I was in desperate search of a new vet. My #1non-negotiable requirement was that the new vet and their staff had to be kind, caring, gentle, and understanding. However, while Cadillac may be my over-grown goofy and wonderful constant companion, I did realize that I was asking a lot.
On our first visit, I was highly impressed. Dr. Bryant and the reception staff were extremely warm and friendly - despite the fact that Cadiilac, was making all sorts of nasty noises. There was no way to mistake it either, he was definately not shy about letting them all know to "STAY AWAY, DO NOT COME CLOSE." He wouldn't even accept treats.
Since then roughly 2 years have passed. With each visit Cadillac gets more comfortable with Dr. Bryant and the rest of the staff. He no longer shakes when we pull into the parking lot, he doesn't refuse to get out of the car, and I don't have to drag him through the door. He even takes treats from them now. Not to mention, he might even occassionally give them a tail wag or two.
Seriously, there are no words to describe how wonderful everyone there is. And personally, I don't see why everybody is whining about the price. Even though I'm a broke law school student, I'd much rather pay a little extra and know that my dog isn't going to be treated harshly if I can't be right there in the room watching over shoulders the entire time he's there.
Pros: Dr. Bryant and staff are wonderful with my difficult dog.
