There are no set prices for home inspection services in New York City. Home Inspections rates depends on the experience, knowledge, and credentials of the home inspector. There is no such thing as a degree in home inspection, or a professional engineering degree in home inspection.
What is the difference between a Professional Engineer and a Professional Home Inspector?
Professional engineers are specialists who earned a 4 year degree in Engineering which may in in any field such as Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer enginerring. Make sure the engineer does home inspections full time though, because professional engineers are specialists in their particular fields. Professional Home Inspectors does home inspections full time and are adept at what they do. Professional Home Inspectors are generalists, likened to a general practicianer. A professional engineer is a specialist who gets called if there is a particular problem found in a home inspection. When a professional engineers does a home inspection, they may not follow the standards set forth by professional home inspection organizations, which can be a problem and they may miss certain things. In short a home inspector is a generalists who understands the house as a system as a whole while a engineer does engineering work and specializes in a particular field such as structural integrity of a house, or other fields not related to houses.
