Review content:
We love food from the Med/Mid East and consider ourselves knowledgeable after having traveled to several countries which represent this type of cuisine . Portland is fortunate to have many, such as Hoda's, Al Amir, Riyadh's, Abou Karim, Abu Rasheed , etc, etc... Which are all pleasant and good value.
The skinny: Blue Tangerine has a nice atmosphere. But, the cafeteria style is confusing and clumbsy. The food was only mediocre. We ordered the steak and chicken Kabobs with rice, side of pita with hummus and tzetziki. The tzetziki was the saving grace of the meal, had it not been available we would have left the very dry, barely warm rice and tasteless beef/chicken. The hummus was decent, but not worth the price. Overall, the food was over priced when compared to other similar restaurants in PDX area. For example, for $15 you get 3oz of blah tasting steak kabob and 2/3cup of luke warm, dry rice. No vegetables or salad included, which should be at this price! The mark up on the food is tremendous, which would explain the 8 servers and 5-6 customers. We just can't think of any reason to go back to this place to give it another try, which is sad because it has such promise. This area needs a Med Restaurant. It's in a suburb mall, where they must feel compelled to hike up the prices and offer sub par food to teens that frequent the mall. We will go elsewhere for really good food at reasonable prices.
Pros: Tzetziki, decor, area of town
Cons: food, partial cafeteria style doesn't work, over priced for this type of cuisine
