They saved my dogs' lives. I came home from work to find that my Lab had knocked a bottle of ibuprofen off the kitchen counter, and my little cattle dog had gotten into it. She was lethargic and refused to eat or drink. Her gums, eye area and the insides of her ears were blood red. I called Companion Hospital immediately. Luckily the dog had vomited all of it up, but the vet still wanted her down right away for a blood test. A single pill of 600mg of Ibuprofen can kill a dog, and mine ate a whole bottle of 800mg perscription-grade ibuprofen. The vet also asked about my Lab, who was acting normal and seemed to be fine. The vet recommended tests for both of them. At first I didn't want to spend the extra money for another blood test, as my Lab is less likely to get into things like my little pup is. But I decided to take the advice and get them both tested - and I'm glad I did. BOTH dogs were on the path to complete and total renal failure. Both dogs were hospitalized on IV fluids and various medications for a few days. I worked with two different doctors on the case, and they walked me through their daily care step by step after I took them home. It's been a few weeks and both dogs are doing swell!! And the cost was very fair! I love my dogs, and they may have died due to my own negligence. I am very, very grateful to Companion Animal Hospital for their prompt handling of the emergency, and for saving my dogs.
