Excellent Tapas 11/28/2007

I recently had dinner at lolo and I was very pleased with the cuisine and my experience. The server was was very helpful with helping us decide on what tapas to choose and all of them were delicious. One of us at the table was a vegetarian, so we decided to go with all vegetarian options. We started with the apple and blue cheese salad and a nightly special which was a potato salad. Both items were very delicious and fresh. For our raciones we shared the heirloom squash, which was mixed with a medly of seasonal vegetables. This dish was also served with breat and squash puree butter, which was scrumptious. For dessert we had the pumpkin bread pudding, which was too delicious to describe. I should not forget to mention that the wine was fantastic and extremely fair priced for the quality. I had a Spanish red that knocked my socks off. Pros: Excellent tapas, inexpensive, but delicious wine more

Is this the same restaurant? 11/12/2007

From all the hype that is surrounding this place one would think you were in for a real one-of-a-kind dining experience. I must say that our group, while having fine service, was let down by lower than fine cuisine. I know this is a tapas experience and have had many great Spanish meals but this was average at best. I know that I was eating frozen french fries, the beef was slightly off and tasted more of liver, and the serving of salami or prosciutto was so small and shaved so thin one could see the plate through the meat. \r We did enjoy our server and the cocktails flowed freely.\r I would give this place some time to season properly. Pros: nice space Cons: food needs work more

Tapas and romance 11/12/2007

I just took my fiance out here for a Saturday night date, and we both loved it. The food was incredibly good - I couldn't eat enough! The service and sangria were also excellent. The atmostphere is intimate and romantic - well furnished and with good lighting. There was a good buzz without being loud and intrusive. Reasonably priced too. We'll definitely be back... Pros: Food, ambiance, service Cons: Tables could use candles more

Fun and quality 10/24/2007

I am another big fan of tapas and I felt that, mostly, lolo's were very good. The ambiance is nice with comfortable seats and nice lighting. The drinks and the wine list also met expectations -- and my expectations were high considering the seasoned ownership. The service was perfect: friendly but not familiar and moving very quickly.\r \r I would have like more vegetable/vegetarian options. These would give the selections more balance and accommodate vegetarian dining partners better. Frankly, it seems like it would be easy to do on a small plates menu. Also, a bread or rice side would be a nice option to the fried potatoes. more

A Most Excellent Experience 10/9/2007

I had the pleasure of going to lolo the other night. I am a big fan of Spanish tapas and frankly have been a little disappointed in what Portland has to offer I thought lolo was fantastic. We decided on a few tapas (which are small plates, kind of like appetizers for those who don't know), an entree and of course dessert. The tapas were familiar if you've ever had Spanish Tapas before yet quite tasty. We got the shrimp entree which had great flavor and had the most perfect sauce for soaking up with your bread. Although stuffed we had a most excellent pumpkin bread pudding with pomegranate which was a satisfying combo of sweet and tart. What else can I say.....the drinks were great, service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself was a little loud and had a little family friendly vibe since some people had kids (kind of a downside). A good dining experience and I'm sure we'll be back. There are lots more yummy tapas and cocktails to try! Pros: variety and taste of food, cocktails Cons: a little loud, can get pricey real fast more

Good Idea- Wrong part of town 10/8/2007

The idea is great- tapas- YUM! Tapas are so fun!... but lolo's, located on NE Alberta, chose the wrong part of town- It's a bit more upscale than the surrounding area- it would have fit in better in the Pearl or NW. That being said, the food was okay. I wasn't blown away by anything. Some of the dishes looked like they had been taken straight out of a bag of frozen food and arranged nicely on your plate so they look pretty- the taste was average. It might be worth your time to check it out if you're in the area, but it not, you won't be missing much. Pros: Cool idea Cons: Food, location more
