First let me begin by saying, I think the concept is great. I love the cafe setting and the quaint outdoor seating, and the deserts are quite good. But the service, what service? ...

Blech! 10/24/2007

I have never had a good experience with the food there. It is always gross. I've tried it more than once because people love La Madeleine so much, I think I must be missing something. After about my third or fourth attempt at finding something good there, I give up. What don't I like about it? The sauce flavors perhaps? Even a simple breakfast sandwich had some disgusting sauce on it that I couldn't even eat (and I usually finish anything). And their crepes had some boring sauce in them, although that was the best thing I think I've eaten there. more

Feast with French Flair! 9/13/2006

We recently had a girl's night get together at the La Madeline on South Cooper Street in Arlington. It had been a while since I'd eaten here, and I had almost forgotten how fabulous it was. My light dinner last evening was a Quiche Lorraine, cup of fabulous French Onion Soup and some of their fabulous coffee. The quiche was light and satisfying. And so fresh! I know that sometimes things sit around for a while, but this one was right out of the oven. Their French Onion soup was fabulous as always, with a large croûton and some shredded Swiss cheese. And the coffee - I can't say enough about it! Their house blend is better than Starbucks! Rich, smooth and satisfying, coffee with half and half doesn't get much better than this. My bill was about $9.00 for this light supper. But if you add in all the free bread and butter I ate and the eleven cups of coffee, I think it's pretty fair. OK, so I didn't really have 11 cups of coffee, but I COULD have! The place was not too crowded for a weeknight, and you can sit and talk a La Mads for hours (which we did). This is also a great place to pick up a quality dessert or a loaf of bread too. I plan to bring the hubby here for breakfast on Sunday! more

Oui Oui, No! No! 8/2/2006

First let me begin by saying, I think the concept is great. I love the cafe setting and the quaint outdoor seating, and the deserts are quite good. But the service, what service? No one to greet you at the door, no one at the counters, unfriendly cashier. The lunch is meh! DO NOT ORDER THE POTATO GALLETE, it is terrible! I will update this review again as I will give them another chance at lunch. more

I love pastry 8/4/2005

I am custard fans and their fruit tart is my best birthday cake. Lots of custard and fruits, and crispy crust. Napoleon, tiramisu, chocolate torte are my top picks. Spinach pie is also good. There is a fireplace in the central, quite a warm and comfortable French? feeling. I totally recommend coffee / tea break with friends or a book. more

cheap, fast, french 6/15/2005

Ok, maybe it's not REAL french food, but who really knows what that is anyway? Not people like me, who can only afford to eat here. It tastes good, and that's what I say counts. They have a great caesar salad and a great turkey sandwich. Lots of different things to try and reasonably priced. The staff seems friendly but tired, and sometimes they get a little slow. more
