I think it is important for anyone considering a free consultation at K-9 Companions to understand that the reason for the consultation is to evaluate the dogs temperament and the needs of both the dog and the client. Some dogs need to see a veterinarian for medical or temperament issues due to medical issues prior to training. Some people wish to train their dogs in a manner that is as inexpensive as possible and therefore need to spend more time being involved in the training themselves (such as driving to the facility weekly) and not boarding the dog while training. Other clients prefer to have as much as possible done for them and would prefer to board the dog (costs more) and have as much of the training as possible done for them. Some dogs actually need this level of training due to a lack of socialization or due to them being fearful or aggressive. There is no way that a trainer can tell an owner over the phone what the dog is going to need. This is why the consultation is FREE. The training prescribed could be as little as a (local) in home lesson for $100.00. It could be lessons at the facility for $250-$495. The client might want lessons done in their home (at a higher cost) or they might want the Mercedes of dog training which involves the dog staying (boarding) at the facility, followed by lesson/s in their home and a number of follow up lessons over the next year at the facility. A client (or potential client) should never hold a trainer responsible for an idea (price) that they get in their minds before having a consultation. Doing this would be similar to asking a veterinarian what could be done with a dog prior to an initial examination. There are too many variables depending on both what the dog needs and what the client wants. The previously mentioned client was actually offered a $995 price with an additional $200 distance charge for an in home due to distance. The dog needed an additional week due to temperament and train ability. They were given the choice and again the consultation was FREE. We are sorry that they focused on the field lesson price when they called but were quoted the range of ALL of our prices. The only course where board is applied is the one where boarding is necessary. They wanted the Mercedes of dog training for a Volkswagen price. more

VERY DISAPPOINTING!! \r We live in San Diego (100 miles away), so we called K-9 Companions to get information. I spoke with 'K.a.r.e.n'. She gave me info and quoted me a price between $595-995 (max). When we got there - the price nearly tripled!!! (now it's $1699). We wasted 3 hours in the car (plus 1 hour waiting for them because they were behind on appointment times) for a total of 4.5 hours wasted, all because they were deceiving to us on the phone, to get us in the door.\r # \r # \r If you are considering this facility - you better think again. They have hidden fees like you would not believe. more

I can't give K-9 companions enough praise! We had our 7 month old Siberian Husky in training early November 2012. I tried to not set my expectation to high. To my surprise he was able to show us every command they stated on their web site, today we had the first in home training and I'm am truly Amazed. our Pup Banyan now Heals by our side when walking does not pull or sniff the ground, he will sit and lay staying until we release him in spite of distractions. Today he learned the Place command and laid on his bed with my grand kids making much noise. It was worth every penny and Banyan is Turing into the dog I always wanted. Thank you! more

I love love love this place! With 3 kids running around the house I NEEDED my dog to be trained. He was like having another child around the house but one that chewed up everything in sight! So I looked around for places where I could send my dog to ""boot camp"" and I came upon K-9 Companions. After calling for some information on the place I decided to give it a try. Sure enough after the boot camp my dog was FINALLY well behaved. The trainers did no harm to my dog during training and the staff there is very friendly. Not only that, it is very easy to contact them for any questions or concerns. My dog just had babies so you will be seeing me soon! more

Don't Rush It! I did and regret it. 12/6/2010

My dog had aggressive tendencies she would charge and bark at strangers and other dogs I wasn't able to find somebody at the time to give me a quick solution to this growing problem. I mean she was a fast learner she learned the sit, down, leave it, and drop it command very quickly. But I was looking for someone who would help me with her aggression towards people and dogs. Also, her inability to FOCUS on me when giving a command in public. I went on the internet and after comparing I thought this was the right place to take my dog they had great pictures of the setting were they train the dogs. I schedule an appointment for an evaluation, when i was there they told me that my dog was not aggressive she was just very fearful and if not fixed it would eventually turn into aggression and could hurt someone. They recommended the 1 month Doggie boot camp to fix her issues. They assure me that it would be enough time and if she still needed work after that she would stay another week at no additional cost. It would cost me $1600, it was definitely affordable. When i dropped her off I was instructed that they didn't want us visiting because it would interrupt the training process but that we could call for an update on my dog and to come back in a month. After a month, I arrived and the trainer told me that she would go get my dog but first she would do a demo of what my dog had learned in the field, with me out of site. As she was doing so my dog seemed to get distracted very easily and the trainer had a hard time with her getting FOCUSED! Then the trainer when thru the commands with me for about half an hour. Finally, the trainer asked me to follow her to the office to fit my my a dog a prone collar( while SHE was holding on to my dog) as we enter the office a guy leaned over to my dog to pet her and she immediately jumped and barked at him. When my dog arrived to my house it was real Hell! She had severe diarrhea and separation anxiety. Since she was crate trained at the facility, I needed to follow their training program, strictly. When I would put her in the crate she would get super anxious, she would of course whine but along with that I noticed she began panting and salivating. Apart from that her issues where still there she kept bolting at people passing by. The only thing they taught her was her commands but she knew half of them when she had arrived at their facility. I had made it clear to them about her issues towards people and other dogs. I called the trainer and told her about the issues and that I was really unhappy that my dog was still unruly and asked to get a refund she told me that they couldn't and that besides I had only paid for level one, I wasn't even aware they had levels in their training, I was just assure they could ""fix"" my dogs issues. more

Wonderful Dog Trainers 5/17/2009

K-9 Companions is a real gem. The facility is in the Lake Mathews area between Riverside and Corona. After visiting their website, I was curious as to why so many celebrities would be making the trip from L.A. out to this pretty obscure corner of the inland empire just to get their dog trained. I understood after I visited. This is a beautiful (and clean) facility with a very nice staff. The training is thorough and they follow up with you at your home afterwards. And the prices are quite reasonable. Pros: Personalized training, great staff, beautiful, clean, facili Cons: Bit of a drive for those coming from L.A. (but worth it) more
