Best Italian Restaurant In Houston 8/7/2010

This is probably one of the best Italian Restaurants in Houston. Named after the Chef's beloved dog, Giacomo's is truly an innovative Italian restaurant that puts much love into its foods. The restaurant has a Venetian styled appetizer bar where you can choose up to 6 appetizers of your choice, including gazpacho or hot soup, and sit in the cafe with bread and a drink. There are so many innovative appetizers that it becomes really hard to decide what you want. I personally would recommend the ratatouille - it was so flavorful and the vegetables were incredible. The Chef makes a variety of authentic Italian dishes that she learned from Italian women when she was growing up in Italy. The pasta shows a type of quality that is hard to find in any other restaurant in Houston and meats are so succulent and savory. Don't even get me started on the delicious deserts that range from home made vanilla and lemon panna cotta to chocolate mousse with hazelnut toppings. This is definitely my favorite Italian restaurant in Houston and I can't wait to go back for more! more

Light & Delicious Food - Incredible Wine Selection 1/18/2010

I went with some friends after work who had wanted to try out this restaurant. That was 5 days ago and I still think about the spicy marinated shrimp with garlic and olive oil. We had a really nice bottle of Valpolicella from northern Italy and finished with Prosecco. Nice crowd of patrons. Gosh that was fun. I would recommend this place. Pros: Creative and light cuisine, nice atmosphere, good wines Cons: Perhaps a few more traditional dishes, but not a problem more

Contemporary Italian - Great Food, Service & Wines 1/17/2010

Giacomo's is located on Westheimer between River Oaks High School and Kirby. We were surprised about the contemporary cuisine of this restaurant after the previous restaurant there was more traditional Italian. Giacomo's has a very authentic contemporary authentic Italian feel. The setting is energetic and fun with lots of windows and an outside patio that is hopping most of the year. The other patrons we saw included singles and families from the nearby River Oaks area as well as lots of younger singles and couples from Midtown, Montrose, and the Museum District who seemed to be regular patrons. The staff is young, friendly, and on top of things. The menu is a blend of contemporary and traditional italian food - all delicious. Their wine selections are listed on a huge chalk board on one wall. What will delight you is the wide selection wines from all over Italy and a respectable collection of wines from other places, including California, Spain, and Australia. What will shock you is that the wine bottle prices are about 1/2 that of other nearby good restaurants. I highly recommend Giacomo's. Pros: Amazing wine choices at reasonable prices, excellent food Cons: Not a thing more

Delicious swiss chard/goat cheese pasta! 11/20/2009

Giacomo's has the best tortelli pasta with chard goat cheese pasta in the world. Other must trys - tapas, cicchetti and trout! The vibe is casual - modern, order at the counter, so it's fast. Must try the gnocchi di funghi yum!!! Charming patio and friendly staff. Pros: Great tapas and boutique wine bar more
