Best food in town Food is amazing. Every time I come here, I feel like I never want to leave. Very chic atmosphere with a relaxing mood. The service is great and the staff reall...

Worst

Went to this place last Friday night, early so as to partake of the 'discounted menu selections'. Well as this goes, happy hour didn't make me very happy. Discounts only applied...

Alba-Cado & Shrimp Ravioli 9/13/2006

My boyfriend and I go here often and we always get Alba-Cado and Shrimp Ravioli. Both very yum. The Shrimp Ravioli has a creamy sauce, so it's great to share with something else. The Alba-Cado is this avocado ball wrapped around Albacore. (you'll probably need to order more than this for two) The tuna salad is also very good. Cute ambience on the patio, a place you should try once and will probably crave every so often. more

BEST HOUSE SAKE 8/31/2006

I actually crave their cold house sake... mmm. The specialty here is the wide selection of Fusion rolls. My boyfriend prefers the ones with cream cheese, but I'm more of a traditional sushi lover. Gimme Gimme fresh sake and hamachi nigiri any day... Pros: Inexpensive, Romantic, Valet or meter parking Cons: A little difficult to get to if you've never been, aren't familiar with little tokyo and aren't using mapquest. more

Fusion Delight! 7/18/2006

This is a charming restaurant on the eastside of downtown. Great place to meet for lunch - business or pleasure! They offer valet parking and will seat you fairly quickly. It's your typical fusion style restaurant, and every dish I've tried has been creative and delicious. There is a nice outdoor patio in the back, shaded by umbrellas and lovely bougainvillea. Staff are friendly and attentive. A gift certificate to this restaurant would be well appreciated by just about anyone! Pros: Excellent food, valet parking, nice ambiance. Cons: If you don't valet, street parking during the lunch hour is often full more

Best BSCR Roll 6/27/2006

I went there once for dinner with co-workers and fell in love with the place. We sat outside in the courtyard and I had the best japanese meal ever. Zip makes the best BSCR (Baked Salmon California Roll) Great now I wish I were there. more

Japanese off the beaten path. 1/15/2006

I am a regular at Zip - by default, I live close by and get sick of eating Japanese on 2nd street. This place has a lot going for it - the huge half-covered patio in the back, reasonable prices for sushi, bowls, and pasta dishes, and a creative menu. It's not a sushi place as much as a Japanese restaurant, so the name is a little misleading. There is a sushi bar in the front, but the lights are so bright and it's right next to the door - so I've never sat there. The service can be patchy at times and when the back is rented out for a private party, the noise is nearly deafening. Plenty of street parking and local loft-living hipsters. Good place to eavesdrop and people watch. Pros: prices, location, patio Cons: not for veggies, service, noise more

Creative Sushi 6/15/2005

I have been here four times already and was so glad to have discovered this charming and artsy neighborhood! The food is wonderful. I have taken friends here who have never tried sushi and after eating there have had cravings for it. It has lots of veggie selections and has something for everyone, even one who does not want to venture out and try sushi. Try the albacore special! The patio is very beautiful with its light and quaint atmosphere. Pros: great decor, great food, friendly service Cons: bathroom more

Innovative, but not good. 6/5/2005

The food at this restaurant is definitely interesting, but I wish I could say it was good. I usually have an open mind about new things and am not too much of a sushi snob. However, the food was overly complicated, and seemed to try to be too creative. Lots of clashing tastes and textures, and in the end, I found the food unconvicing. I'm glad I tried it, but I probably won't go back for the food. more

Nice for a night out 5/25/2005

I always try and go to Zip Fusion if i'm near downtown. Had a couple less than awesome experiences with service, but the food and the patio make it really memorable. more

Great place for drinks 5/23/2005

I've only been to the one on the corner of Sawtelle and Olympic and the place is beautiful. The food is delicious. Too bad the entree portions are the size of appetizers and priced like an entree. The owner must have hired people with no experience because they had no idea what they were doing. They forgot my salad, when I asked, my waiter told me that it didn't come with a salad. I showed him the menu, he promptly brought it out. I complained that we were getting served and they apologized saying they were under staffed that day, however they had one waiter or bus boy for every table that was occupied. The bus boys didn't even clean up after we were done, he would grab one plate each time he passed. We finally had to ask him to take all the plates. Pros: Delicious Food, Wonderful Ambience Cons: Expensive food & beer, Slow Service, Small portions more

my favorite place 4/15/2005

Magical by day, romantic at night. The vibe is friendly. The paintings are dynamic. The food is always fresh. By far the best Asian fusion cuisine in town. The sushi selection is excellent; my ""sushi expert"" husband says Zip is the only sushi he craves. Mouth-watering appetizers, noodles, & a lot of vegetarian selections! My favorite: Zip Fusion bowl: Zip's version of ""bibimbab"" in a hot stone bowl served w/ spicy sauce to stir in. Sizzle! The scent of rice, vegies w/ tofu is intoxicating. (Zip Fusion bowl also w/ beef or seafood) Next on the top of my list: vegetable curry, a velvety rich curry that is truly the best Japanese-style curry. I highly recommend this spot! It is a gem! ( I heard that Zip is opening @ Olympic Collection, Olympic & Sawtelle in W L.A. w/ a karaoke club serving food & drink. ) Pros: vegetarian friendly, wide menu selection, great vibe more

BAD SERVICE - YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY 3/1/2005

The experienced significant problems last two times I've been to Zip Fusion for lunch. The first time, I was informed that my order had been ""lost"" 45 minutes after I had ordered. My waitress was nowhere to be found and the hostess said, ""the food should ready in 15 minutes"". The second time they got my order wrong, and I didn't get my lunch until 35 minutes after I had ordered and 15 minutes after my guest was served his lunch. We also had to ask twice for one refill of tea and water. One server's attitude was not good, he gave me a look almost as if he expected me to be more patient. Despite the goodness of the food, the lunch was a disaster and my guest was not impressed. Pros: Price, Food, Atmosphere Cons: Service, Service, Service more

DOWNTOWN JEWEL 11/26/2004

Great atmosphere on the patio. Very attentive staff. Inventive but not pretentious. Absolutely first class experience on Traction Ave. Who would have thought? I felt like I was in Soho. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Value more

All Around Excellent 8/15/2004

It's a bit of a trek, but totally worth it. The patio is lovely and the sushi is excellent. We ordered enough food and booze to kill a whale and the bill was surprisingly reasonable. Pros: Great ambiance, Good food, Reasonably priced more

Great for visitors 3/25/2004

Take your guests from out of town here, or new friends that you want to impress with your taste for cutting-edge food fusion and artsy atmosphere. Stick to the sushi, it is what they do best, although their ravioli is pretty amazing too. Stay away from the noodle bowls, they run kind of low on flavor. It's an adventure to find, but a little oasis amidst the deserted industrial-looking arts district. Pros: Great atmosphere, Lots of rooms, Inventive sushi more

highly recommended 2/16/2004

i went to this restaurant for valentines and was really surprised how romantic and cute this place was...we were greeted by the friendly staff immediately and was seated right away...the food was really good and the portions were just right...the soju cocktail was yummy...i really had a great time and it was the perfect place to end a beautiful day...i can't wait to go back and bring my friends to this great place...o btw, i saw jason alexander (george from seinfeld) eating here with his friends. =) ps...i agree with the previous comment on the location being weird and a lil hard to find and parking isn't great...but overall really worth the time looking for it. Pros: food, friendly staff, ambiance more
