I was led to believe this was an upscale restaurant and was a bit suprised at the menu of comfort food, but ok with it. I can definitely see how someone dead set on an upscale restaurant would be upset though. Our waitress was very friendly and spent enough time with us to recommend and give accurate descriptions of the menu items. We really enjoyed our meal and the dessert of peaches and cream turnover. The place is definitely not pretentious and we escaped with a dramatically lower bill than we had initally expected to pay before seeing the menu. I would say go to Dry Creek Kitchen or Cyrus if you desire truly upscale dining, but Zin does well for comfort food at reasonable prices. more

Zin is just one of the many highly regarded restaurants within Healdsburg. Zin is located directly on the Plaza in Healdsburg. Inside, the decor is tranquil and understated, with high ceilings and muted tones. Wait staff was quiet, yet friendly and knowledgeable. The menu was full of delectable appetizers, entrees, and desserts to boot. The wine list was thorough and chalk full of local wines. This restaurant is loved by the tourists and the locals, and has even been visited by Giada DeLarentiis. This restaurant is so superb; whatever you order is worth the cost.\r ? Recommendation: Beer battered green beans, hanger steak, and any of their desserts, of which the creme brulee is wonderful. more

I am a foodie. If you're a foodie, you're probably reading this trying to decide if you want to visit Zin. I am completely on the fence on how to sway you on this one but here is my experience. The ambiance of the resturant was great - romantic and cozy. After a day of wine tasting and hanging out at Bear Republic Brewery, I didn't care too much for the wine list although there were some great wines. The food on the menu was not too exciting. I was expecting more eclectic, out of the ordinary food to match the style of the establishment from the outside and in. I had the braised short ribs. The sauce was way to tart but the basil corn salsa on the side was fabulous. The mashed pototos were runnyand grainy much like instant. The wierd thing was my husband had the Sunday special, Fried Chicken with mased potatos and his tasted like real taters. When I told the hostess/manager what I thought about the mashed potatos on my dish, she got really insulted and said we don't open cans or use anything instant here! Then she walked away from our table never to be seen. Okay, I was just advising her that the mashers sucked and to let the cook know!! A simple apology would have been all I needed. The attitude from the hostess, ruined my mood for Zin, and I will probably never give it another chance. In my opinion, I should have stayed at Bear Republic and had some of their yummy brewerery food. Pros: nice ambience, nice decor Cons: highly over priced ordinary menu more

A member of our group was humiliated by the owner. When we tried to resolve the situation - he was even worse. The only thing saving a proprietor like this is a good location and a lack of better alternatives in the area. We didn't stick around for the entree. The tempura green beans are definitely overated and actually were rather bland. Smoked porkchop was very tender, though a bit too smoky. Wine list was good and affordable. Cons: could be loud more
