All Kinds of Japanese Stuff 5/20/2006

I really don't have a clue what I'm doing in here, but it's so much fun to look around at all the imported goodies (edible, edible-related, and just random). The vegetables are very fresh, and they have lots of things I don't recognize. I know the Japanese don't have big sweet tooths and aren't known for sweets, but I'll admit a real taste for Japanese sweet snacks and cookies (POKY -- yummy). They carry all sorts here. It must be good because lots of native Japanese shop here. They don't have their own parking (unless I missed it), but it's very close to Central Square T, and you can walk from the municipal lots. more

Cheap Japanese Supplies and Treats 5/18/2006

Yoshinoya is less than half a block off Prospect Street in Central Square. Don't pay a million dollars for pickled ginger at Bread and Checkbook when you can get it here for a pittance. In addition to packaged foods and cooking supplies, you can get housewares, sushi grade fish, and that awesome Japanese bread that comes a few thick slices to the package. The place is pretty big and you can lose half an hour of your life poking around. more

Make Your Own Japanese Meal 4/15/2006

If you're looking to make any sort of Japanese dish, then you have to go to Yoshinoya. It's conveniently close to the Central T stop on the red line, so you can easily head here wherever you are in the Greater Boston area. They offer tons of sushi-grade fish, noodles, sauces, prepackaged foods, etc. The prices aren't too bad either, and you'll find tons of stuff here you that you can't anywhere else. Just remember that it's closed on Sundays. more

japan thing 8/12/2005

I love this place. They have a great selection of crackers and cookies. Vegetable selection is ok, not a whole lot, but they make up for it, in their selection of dried goods and condiments. They have their own point program to reward loyal customers. I come here for the bread that is delivered twice a week and for the great noodle selections. more
