Yokohama Ramen

I have lived near Yokohama all my life and it was by far my most favorite Ramen house here in America. hen one day when i was in Japan they literally disappeared and they are not there anymore. It was replaced by this really bad restaurant called asian-ya. If you want good ramen then the next closest place that is very good is Ramen-ya on Olympic 3 blocks west of sawtelle next to the frame store. Pros: Great food, good atmosphere Cons: Not there anymore more

Yokohama Ramen - Fantastic food at a marvelous price. My current favorite & recommendation is the Mabo Bowl (2 meals in one). This bowl has a spicy thick soup base with tofu, veggies and ground pork. The seating area is clean/bright to enjoy your meal with friendly server(s) coming to your table. If you are in a fine dinning mood you can try the ""otherside"" of Yokohama. A great date place with a with warm earth tones and wood accents. The menu is an Asian fusion. I tried the apple chicken and my date had the miso chicken. We both were impressed with our meals. The both dishes were flavorful with the chicken being moist. Also, try the White Russians. I can't wait to go back to the ""Other Side"" and try the other dishes on the menu. ** Updated 2006-03-04 ** Sake bar area completely renovated. WOW!!! More seats, even more delicious menu, great music. Very impressed ** I've been there a bunch for times already and I love it! For the price you get HUGE bowls of ramen and soup. I'm pretty partial to the wonton soup and spicy miso ramen. They serve beer, wine and sake too. There is actually 2 sections to the restaurant. One side serves ramen and soup mainly and the other side is more of a lounge/bar area that serves more sake and finer meals. Portions are plenty and delicous. On the downside, parking can sometimes be a pain, due to the small lot. But there is plenty of street parking. Also the waitress staff is Japanese (though the do speak English), but special orders may be hard to translate. I definitely recommend this place. Huge bowls of noodle soups for great prices. The menu is very pork and shellfish-heavy, so kosher-style diners, beware! (And the spicy soup is really genuinely spicy.) For everyone else, though, enjoy the extensive menu, speedy service, easy seating, and great value. $7 gets you a bowl of soup big enough for at least 2 meals. Very haimish, wonderful neighborhood place, great on a chilly day! It's hard to find Japanese ramen shops in LA (as opposed to sushi bars or places that serve teriyaki and bento) and this is one of my new favorites. this place has the best ramen deal i've seen in LA so far. you can get a large bowl of soup noodles for $6-7. noodles are actually a minor ingredient in the bowl, with the major ingredients being whatever other ingredients you asked for in your soup (bbq pork, seafood, etc). my only (minor) complaints are that the kitchen closes at 9pm, even on weekend nights, and it's really hard to find parking Pros: fast, cheap, huge portions Cons: not enough parking, closes early more
