Our family's World of Pets experience: We recently bought a parakeet for our family. It was poor choice to not shop around put this place was convenient and open late. Upon entering the bird room (which was very isolated) there was a wide selection, Parrots to Finches of all breeds. The Parakeets were over crowded about twenty to a small cage not recommended by the staff of World of Pets for one. The Cockatiels about five to a cage with several that didn't look healthy, patches of feathers missing and overweight. The birds were all very upset by our presence. all of the cages were up and hard to look into to check for cleanliness and runny stools(signs of sick birds). The staff seemed very eager to give us info and help us choose the proper equipment. They were well staffed to the point where you turn a corner and are always asked if you need anything.. customer service to the annoying point and as I learned just a poor use of time. In naivety we choose a parakeet from them. The employee reached into the cage and wrangled a parakeet from the flock. He told us he would show us how to clip the wings, as well clip our birds for us now as none of the their parakeets had them clipped. He ruthelessly pinned him to the side of the cage. Dropped the bird once he got him outside the cage, he flew into their glass window of bird room and sliding glass door about ten times before the bird wore out and stunned gave up the fight. The employee showed us where to clip the wings but after a full minute of searching could not find the scissors to do it for us. We left with our bird, a little stunned by the rough treatment but naive to pet store procedure. I wondered if our feathered friend would suffer any damage and the employee assured me he would be fine but gave me a 4 day guarantee! How big of them. I worked very hard to tame this bird who had obviously never been handled, let alone seen very many humans. I knew I couldn't let the bird out or clip the birds wings until i had tamed it. The rough treatment it received by the pet store employee is not my way. It ended up escaping out of the cage during a cleaning and incidentally flew threw the opening door to outside after only of week of living with us. The bird could fly perfect. I am writing this review to let any prospective naive bird owners to be that this is not the way pet stores should house birds or sell them. They should not be stuffed into cages by the packs and they should be kept in a spot were they can see and be seen by humans. Not the top shelf of some back room. There wings should be clipped before the purchase date and they should be handled by store employees not just thrown food and water. With so many employees always on hand they should find time to give their pets the proper treatment. World of pets has the bottom line in mind not the quality or treatment of animals they are selling. They have great variety of birds but not the company policy to ready the birds for domestic household pet life which is the pet store demographic! Be aware that this is not typical pet store procedure. Do your homework and shop around before finding your future family bird. We decided to purchase another parakeet Top score goes to... Planet Pet, 3147 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, KY 41018 please read my full review at Yahoo for an my experience where I was blown away by the employees and there knowledge and true love of pets including the ones they sell! I will never make another purchase from World of Pets.
