The Importance of Trees 1/17/2006

This is a beautiful museum that educates about the of forests. They even have a display of an old wood fueled log hauling train that was once used to transport logs. There is associated tree farms and a tram ride as well as a raft ride. A visit to this place makes for a fun afternoon. more

Good Learning Tool 1/7/2006

The regular exhibits are geared at teaching children about forestry practices, it is a nice building but it does not take that long to go through. It might be good in conjunction with the Children's museum which is nearby. They have neat exhibits coming through such as James John Audubon's birds and other things to catch. more

Nice, for older kids 9/26/2005

This is a very interesting museum and does provide lots of interactive learning, but I personally think it is best experienced by children who are at least school age (as in age 6 and above). I remember visiting here as a child, but honestly found it more interesting as an adult than I did when I was young. My daughter (age 4 1/2) wasn't exactly bored and thought the displays were kind of interesting, but more from a novelty standpoint - I think a lot of the educational aspects were lost on her. I think if I take her back in about 2 years she will find it much more interesting and will probably learn something from the stories it has to tell. more

World Forestry Center 8/19/2005

Located adjacent to the Washington Park Zoo, before you even enter the premises you can ogle a cross-section of an approximately 500 year-old tree found many years ago floating in a river. Inside you'll learn everything you ever wanted to know about the area's forests, and perhaps a little more. more
