uncaring of patrons 4/23/2011

Went to Workplay for Sara Bareilles. Sara was OUTSTANDING! But the venue is terrible. We were led into a black concrete room with no seating. We stood on a hard concrete floor for 3+ hours, the bar was okay, the sound was nothing to brag about. Its sad to see that the owner only seems to care about profit with this bare bones facility that is uninviting and completely disregards the comfort of the patrons (the paying public). If you want to see your favorite singer or group DO NOT go to Workplay, there are better places out there. more

Very fun place 4/8/2006

I went here once for a "dances from around the world" show. They had traditional dancers do traditional dances from around the world, and it was very good. The place is quite small, so if you want to go to a show here, go early if you want to sit. They do have great drinks and a great atmosphere. I often see advertisements for shows here, so it seems like they have a lot of varieties of really interesting things to see. more

A very modern venue. 1/5/2006

I've been here only once for a concert (Death Cab for Cutie), but this place really made a lasting impression. Located on the Southside of Birmingham, this place is great, albeit a bit on the small side. They have a lot of general admission shows, and there's isn't a whole lot of floor space. If you're claustrophobic I wouldn't recommend it. But this is a very cool place to visit. more

A great alternative 10/28/2005

Workplay is really starting to make a name. I am hearing more and more about it on local radio stations, and seeing lots of ads in the papers. They are really bringing some big names to Workplay. You will enjoy a concert or comedian here, and it is a great alternative to a club or the "club scene". Give it a try! more

Best place to hear music in Birmingham 8/13/2005

If you've started to think that you're too old to go to local clubs and hear new music but have never been to Workplay, you should go. This theater, owned by former MTV-VJ Alan Hunter, is acoustically wonderful. The place is smoke free except for the lobby bar, so no worrying about coming out of a concert smelling like smoke. Best of all, most concerts actually start when they say it's going to start. There is an upper level that has tables and is only for 21 and older people. The music that is brought to Workplay tends to be singer-songwriters or up and coming artists. more
