Book store on South Street 4/17/2006

There's a greeat bookstore on South Street in Philadelphia called Wooden Shoe Books. It's on 508 S 5th Street. It's a specialty book store, catering to anarchist and leftist politics, as well as queer, punk, black history and more. It's a small shop, and it's all volunteer. It doesn't have a boss, either: all workers make descisions with each other at monthly meetings. As far as price, it's an independent bookstore, so it sells most things at cover price (the price the publisher has specified). They also sell pamphlets, zines, music, t-shirts, magazines, stickers, pins and patches. Open 12p - 10p sun - thurs, 12p - 11p sat & sun. 215-413-0999 more

Best book store ever 2/28/2006

This is run by volunteers, which makes it x10 better than any other place. They sell tons of stuff: pamphlets to stickers and patches and CDs and vinyls and shirts and really you never know what you could find unless you go in. It's so good to give your money to a good place too. Spend wisely and shop here. more

Alternative media store 2/5/2006

Run by an all-volunteer collective, the Wooden Shoe bookstore sells all manner of alternative and dissident media, from books and pamphlets to magazines to shirts and stickers and buttons to CDs and vinyls to... they have a whole lot of stuff you should check out. Their for-sale wrack usually has some awesome deals too. This non-profit also sells products made by politically repressed peoples such as the Zapatistas in order to raise money and awareness for them. This is a great store you should check out if you're ever on South Street. more

This is a group run non-profit bookstore that can fulfill all of your alternative print media needs. If you're looking for that hard-to-find book about counter-culture odds are they have it. If not, they are more than happy to order a copy for you. more

Anarchist Bookstore 8/18/2005

The anarchist books and everything store of Philadelphia is a favorite of tourists and locals alike. They have a wide selection of books of a political slant on topics from transportation to gender to music. They also have a wide selection of local zines and music, which you can sell as well as buy. more
