Best

Great restaurant in the area! I live in Murrysville and even though I heard the name, I have never eaten at Wooden Nickel until last night. I went there with my wife and daughter....

Worst

not very good service for the price of the food and drinks. a beautiful restaurant and outdoor area. Pros: nice people Cons: slow service

REALLY ?????? 2/15/2011

Good: Nothing!. Bad: The server unfortunately was so aloof and clueless I wonder if she knew where she was.. Improvements: New Management. New Menu New Staff. Other: Brief overview, Bread...No butter. Ahi Tuna...Better known as tuna with soy sauce. Salad...with bitter green tomatoes, terrible onions and (of course) Iceburg. Sidebar...no butter with bread but butter wrapper with salad (one lb wrapper). My Medium/Rare filet came 45 minutes later...Took so long because the steak was taking some extra time. When it did arrive it was comparable to the sole of my shoe. Thank God for the sense of humor of my beautiful Valentine. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND NEVER EVER GO HERE!!!. more

Happy New Year 1/2/2011

High praise! New Years Eve dinner was excellent and reasonable priced. Best of all was live jazz from the Jazz Express. more

Not-So-Happy Valentine's Dinner 2/14/2009

Quickly, this restaurant is AWFUL! In more detail, my kids' chicken fingers, my hubby's cod, and my over-priced seafood platter all tasted the same---bland and like cardboard. You would think the wait-staff would've noticed the two bites taken off the plates and the sneers when asked if we wanted it packed to take home---but alas, no, we ended up paying for the what I endearingly call 'my bloody valentine'--murderous and a torture to sit through. I'm simply amazed that this restaurant is still in business; the owner must have some really good friends. My recommendataion---it sits between Denny's and Eat n Park, go to one of those. more

Overrated!! 2/13/2009

I never write reviews, so this should show how terrible of an experience this was. When my husband and I left after our Valentine's Day dinner, we felt as though we were robbed. I don't even think my "margarita" had tequila in it. It was more like 2 shots of gin and strawberry juice on crushed ice (I ordered it frozen). Our appetizer came out 30 seconds before they shoved our entrees in front of us, which is learned in restaurant fopaux 101. I ordered the surf and turf at "market price". I thought about asking what that price was, but decided against it at my own risk. I ordered my steak medium, and it came slightly burned and very bland. Also, I have had better lobster tail at Outback Steakhouse. It cost us $62 for the surf and turf alone. With the tip, we paid $141. Needless to say, we will NEVER go back there again. If you are thinking "let's try a new place", don't try this one. If you are hesitant to try new things, this will remind you why. more

Not So Good 1/18/2007

My experience was not so good. Smokers in bar are very close to the eating area. Veil bland, poorly cooked and presented. The pasta was very good. Cappuccino was a joke (whipped cream on regular coffee) and desert "pecan ball' not very good either....sorry more

Best in Region 12/29/2005

If you are lucky enough to get the Filet Alaska, get it, It will be something you talk about the next day at work. All of there italian dishes are great (which is most of the menu) and the steaks are perfect. I hate veal but my wifes veal saltimbocca was great. The wait staff was great and the manager was even better. If you get a chance say high to Mike the manager he is a character. more

Good Italian Food 10/21/2005

Wooden Nickel has great food for what you are spending. Most entrees are Italian - pasta dishes are good and wedding soup is above average. Waitstaff is friendly and prices are good. more

Wonderful! 9/16/2005

This wonderful restaurant is tucked just off of Rt. 22. The food is great and the menu has a nice selection. The waitstaff could have been a bit more attentive but the food more than made up for it. The chicken parmesean portion was very large and easily fed my husband. A definite must if in Monroeville! more
