My parents, who are both in their 70s, went to the Woburn Bottle and Can Return center last week and had an awful experience. They questioned the amount they received (apparently the center pays less than the Massachusetts 5 cent rate and keeps a portion) and because they did so, the owners became agitated. While it surely is the right of any owner to operate a business the way he/she sees fit (including, I guess, paying less than the state's bottle deposit rate and keeping a margin), it isn't OK to treat a customer with aggression or hostility. The owner had a friend at the store at the time that aggressively approached my father, nearly causing a physical altercation that left my dad pretty shaken. When going to this establishment, ask yourself how much your bottles are really worth and whether it is worth your sanity. My guess is that it isn't.
