We recently had a child and needed to buy life insurance beyond the small amount we had at work. Our advisor, Kirk Spano, helped us find the right kind of coverage, which was a 30 year term that we can convert to a permanent plan if we need to someday, but gives us our premiums back if we live the 30 years and let the policy end then. The return of premium rider (which is pretty common now I found in looking around) made buying life insurance a lot easier to take. It took under 2 hours to talk, go over options and fill out the applications, even though we had a lot of first timer questions which Kirk answered patiently and completely. I thought we would have to pledge our new child to get the insurance but was very happy how cheap it was to insure my wife and I with a half million of coverage on each of us. Have since opened Roth IRAs with Kirk and are rolling over my wife's old 401k to an IRA as well, using no-load funds in fee-based accounts.
Pros: No pressure, easy to work with, very informative, cheap plans, several good choices
