Wise Guys At The Lake

Maybe I am spoiled but there are only 4 good places to get Italian food, Italy, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. I do not know if the owner got lost along the way (we hear he is from the Bronx) but the food was not good at all. I mean when does curry go on shrimp scampi????? We asked the waitress and she checked with the cook and yep curry on shrimp scampi. The service was good. I did not see any mob style except for the standard Frank Sinatra picture and a few pictures here and there. The cheese on my scallop parm was not even melted. Salad was shameful. Prices well..........way too much for what we got. No coffee had to ask and it took them 40 minutes to produce some coffee. The person that ran the place either was a buffoon or was trying to act like a 'wise guy', I go for the buffoon. The only thing I liked was the view of the lake. You can eat inside or out and the table presentation was beautiful. The lake is a smoke screen for the terrible food. I gave it two stars for view and service of the waitress, other than that thumbs down. Pros: Beautiful View Cons: Bad food and very expensive for what you get more

This place was great! The food was amazing, the atmosphere was very cool decorated with a ""godfather"" theme and had a terrific view of the lake. Our waitress was very professional and courteous and gave great service. We had an after dinner drink at the bar and the bartender Matt was awesome. We had one of his signature Lemon Drops. Let me tell you it was the best one we ever had! He is the best bartender around. We would like to highly recommend this place to everyone. Also while you're there try the chicken francaise in the lemon sauce. Delicious! Pros: Food, Drinks, Atmosphere, Lake View Cons: Can't name a single one more

I have eaten at this restaurant on several occasions. It is excellent! The food is wonderful! I usually order the Chicken Mafiosa although my husband loves the Chicken Parm. The house dressing is really good, not to mention the bread! The view of the lake is so relaxing & I love the atmosphere. I definitely recommend this restaurant! Pros: Food & atmosphere more

If one can vouche for a restaurant, I would have to say...""This place is a goodfella"" The atmophere reminds me me of the scene in the Godfather when Michael Coreleone is sitting in the the vewing room telling Freddy he's out of the business. What I mean to say is...this place has a great veiw of the Lake. Inside and outside seating.\r \r As for the food, it is truely authentic. The bread is amazing (crunchy crust with a warm and soft inside). Craving something that's not on the menu? Just ask. They will make it JUST as you want it. BTW try a richotta and meatball pizza. Unbelievable.\r \r I will say, this place is popular for a reason. A reservation is not manditory, however, it's not a bad idea either.\r \r Now, even though I joked a bit about this place feeling a bit like a scene in the Godfather, this is a fantastic date spot.\r \r All I gotta say is try it, you'll love it. I came to Wise Guys while I was on vacation visiting my sister. I am not a fan of southern italian food b/c they never get it right. While I was in NC I was proven wrong. My husband order an filet oscar it wasn't what we were use to but he enjoyed it very much. He had a good sized filet with fresh crab meat topped with cheese. in a brown sauce that was ok. I ended up having the chicken del nona. I loved it , it was prepaired to perfection. it was made with hartachoke harts and black olives in a light sauce with pasta. The little girl that waited on us was sweet. plus she was able to keep up with my husbands and brother in laws baggering. We also enjoyed to bottle of wine the owner suggeted (Firesteed Pinot Noir). Over all will be coming back next time I am in North Carolina. Thank you for a great time and lots of laughs all of wise guys staff. I was taken to Wise Guys for my birthday by some great friends. The server was great. She wasn't afraid to joke around with our table and remained professional at all times. The food was wonderful from appitizer to entree to desert. The bartender made all our drinks great not to strong but not weak. With Sanatra playing in the back ground and the low lighting made my birthday private for me and my friends. I must say this is the best birthday I have had in at least 10 years. Pros: the whole experience was great. Cons: it was to cold so I couldn't sit out side more

Went with two other couples on a weekend night. Something happened to one person's entree (blamed on the kitchen). We were 90% through with our meals before the missing dinner made it to the table. No offer to comp the meal, or any other offer to make up for this. I had a steak served ""Oscar-style"". It was canned crab meat in some kind of brown gravy poured completely over a sub-standard cut of beef. It was not pleasing. They need a real chef in the kitchen and a staff that cares. Atmosphere was lack luster, they seemed more interested in the TV then customers. Meal started out well, nice waitress, good wine, and a great homemade dressing. The meal however was not good, I ordered from their Speciality menu so I expected it to be very good. I got a chicken dish with crabmeat, the crab mixture was loaded with onions, and the brown sauce tasted like cold canned gravy. My spouse ordered the lasagna which normally is hard to go wrong with but, this one had very little flavor. We got the sense these NewYorkers think we are fools here in the south, I think this place will not last which is sad because the view is nice. Pros: Nice view Cons: loud, food lacks flavor more
