MY HUSBAND CO-SIGNED A LEASE FOR MY DAUGHTER AROUND APRIL/MAY,2008. STACY GROFF BEING THE PROPERTY MANAGER OF CUMBERLAND COURT ADDED MY DAUGHTERS ADDITED B/F TO THE LEASE AFTER HE GOT OUT OF JAIL & MOVED INTO THE APARTMENT. STACY GROFF REWROTE THE LEASE ADDING HIM ON IT FOR NOV.1,2008-OCT.31,2009.(WHICH SHOULD HAVE ANNULED THE LAST LEASE WHICH WE CO-SIGNED ON) ON DEC.18,2008 STACY GROFF GAVE THE BOTH OF THEM A NOTICE OF TERMINATION. THEY WERE TO VACATE BY JAN.30,2009 BEFORE NOON. THIS WHOLE TIME WE ASSUMED THAT THE LEASE WHICH WE CO-SIGNED ON WAS NO LONGER VALID. MY O' MY HOW WRONG WE WERE! NOT LONG AFTER MY DAUGHTER VACATED THE APARTMENT, WE GOT A BILL FOR DAMAGES DONE FROM FIGHTS IN THE APARTMENT. WE HAD ONLY 14DAYS TO RESPOND ABOUT THE AMONUT OF DAMAGES OWED. I MYSELF TRIED A FEW TIMES TO CONTACT THE ACCOUNT MANAGER, LEAVING VOICEMAIL. MY CALL WAS NEVER RETURNED. I WAS OUT OF TOWN & THE 14 DAYS WERE CLOSE. WITH MY HUSBANDS LENTHLY WORK SCHEDULE JUST WENT AHEAD AND WROTE A CHECK TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES, WELL, THEN JUST THIS PAST WEEKEND WE FOUND OUT THAT THE ACCOUNTANT ALSO HAD THE AMOUNT DEDUCTED FROM OUR TAX REFUND. SO, WE WERE CHARGED FOR THE DAMAGED TWICE. MY HUSBAND CALLED HOUSING AUTHORITY TO GET OUR MONEY BACK. THEY TOLD HIM THEY JUST NOTICED IT THE DAY BEFORE HE CALLED,BUT THEY CASHED OUR CHECK ANYWAY....HMMM, SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THEY WERE JUST GOING TO KEEP THE MONEY UNTIL THEY GOT THE CALL FROM MY HUSBAND ABOUT THE DOUBLE CHARGE. NOW THEY WILL SEND US A CHECK FOR THE AMOUNT THAT WAS DEDUCTED FROM OUR TAXES.\r
SO, MY ADVICE IS TO BE VERY CAREFUL AND KEEP ALL RECORDS,PAPERWORK,ETC. CAUSE EVEN THOUGH HOUSING AUTHORITY IS OUT TO HELP THOSE LESS FORTUNATE, THEY COULD ALSO BE RIPPING YOU OFF. NEVER CO-SIGN A LEASE FOR SOMEONE ELSE. YOU MAY HAVE YOURSELF PAYING FOR SOMETHING YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR.
