Willie's gets a little stingier with each visit 5/9/2007

The first time I went to Willie's I was amazed by the food and selection of good wines. I told my friends how great it was. The second time (one month later), I noticed that their prices were higher, the portions were smaller and they seemed to be using cheaper ingredients, but it was still reasonably good. The third time (again, about 1 month later) I went there they had raised their prices again and the quality of the food had slipped again. Their "bites" are now less than half of the size they were when I first dined here. I may give Willie's another try but I'm afraid the next time I go they'll give me a plate with a leaf of lettuce on it and call it an entree. Pros: Wine by the half-glass lets you try many kinds Cons: Shrinking food sizes more

Let the food speak for itself! 9/14/2006

I dined at Willies a couple nights ago, and the food was spectacular! I had been there twice before, and I was equally impressed this time. Willies never ceases to amaze me! I recently ordered the grilled sirloin, which came very tender along with arugula, potatoes, and roasted shallots in a delicious blue cheese/corn broth. You have to taste it to believe it! I truly don't think you can go wrong at this place. There is a nice lounge type area with couches and chairs for you to enjoy company with over a glass of wine, surrounded by interesting pieces of art throughout the entire restaurant. Dine there now and see what you've been missing out on! more

Fabulous but almost too quiet 9/5/2006

The food at Willie's was great! We enjoyed the cheese plate with accompaniments, had the grilled romaine, which was fabulous. For main courses we had salmon and hatari, which were both very nice. The wine list was amazing! And the fact that half glasses are available means you get to try twice as many wines at the same price! For dessert we had the berry shortcake on the most amazing rosemary scone. The down side? Too quiet... Now I'm not a "seen and be seen" type, but the fact that it's so quiet here makes me nervous for Willie's survival. Please go so that this place will still be open in a few months, when I'm ready to go again! Pros: Free parking in the 11th Street ramp with validation more

salmon and scallops are amazing 8/2/2006

The seafood choices at Willie's are wonderful. I could create my own coursed dinner and had salmon (the best I've ever had, they don't overcook it like some other places), the scallops, and a golden beet salad that was delicious. They have so many choices of wines by the glass, I created my own tasting menu for the wine too! The wines are available in 2 oz. tastes if you want to try several kinds. They have small and large plates, my date had the large sirloin plate and he said it was as good of a cut of meat as he would have had at any steakhouse. more

Best Small Plates Meal 8/1/2006

The menu continues to evolve. There are now a series of "small bites" which consist of a generous taste of various appetizers and main meal elements. At $3.00 each they allow you to enjoy a series of different taste treats. Don't miss the skewered pork on two lage pieces of fresh pineapple floating on a spicy satay sauce. There are no better sauteed scallops anywhere! Large, sweet, and perfectly seared after being dusted with parmisan but moist inside. They are served on a pea puree, with fried shallots and porcini mushrooms. Yum! Pros: Charming decor, Outside dining Cons: Small tables for two. more
