I HAD A BLAST! MET A LOT OF GOOD PEOPLE. THE STAFF ARE SUPER FRIENDLY. GREAT MUSIC. FRIENDLY CROWD. GOOD FOOD!

Worst

In favor of this bar is the parking lot, the lighting, good televisions, and a woodsy bar. I did not have the service problems complained about by other reviewers, but my wife and...

September 20th 2008 Sick SMELL EVERYWHERE- 9/21/2008

We went to the Wild Onion on Saturday Night (09/20/08) and I am so curious how a somewhat of an upper scale bar/restaurant would have smelled so strongly of Sickness! The smell started right after walking past the person that took our cover and continued around the ENTIRE main bar and all the way back to the ATM machine. I gasped at the thought that there was actually an entire dining room full of people eating. I don't understand how any restaurant management would think this is acceptable. I think the only reason the place was as busy as it was is because they were running some kind of event night, the place was filled with deaf patrons. Nothing at all against the event, just the horrendous smell! Makes me wonder how often they clean as they should, with the strong smell throughout, that was NOT the effects of one person getting sick, but several without sanitizing. VERY DISGUSTING, very bad experience! Pros: I'm sure aside from the sick smell normally a great place Cons: The whole place smelled of drunk-sickness more

Always a good time 7/30/2008

While the drinks can be a bit spendy at times, we always have a great time. Small place, gets a little sweaty on the dance floor. I have never had any bad service at the Onion, considering I dont go there to socialize with the staff. Pros: good bloody's Cons: spendy drinks more

Watch Out for the Witch In the Back Bar.... 4/8/2008

I have never had a more horrible experience with service. I was degraded and insulted by a bartender because of their dislike for another person. more

Food ick, staff ok. 4/5/2008

While everyone in the restaurant was staring at the television.... I got the fish sandwich and it tasted like they just put a dead with with some lettuce on a bun. Then my friend gave me some of her pasta and it was so sweet I could not swallow it. Pros: Cheap. Cons: Food. more

To a great server! 3/17/2008

I usually never write anything but today i need to do this. Me and my friends go to the wild onion all the time and my favorite server is Elise. She has never been rude to anyone and is always willing to help you even if your not her table. She always has a smile on her face and i see many of customers stop her just to say Hi. I was actually there also just a couple of weeks ago when i saw her start to run out of the restraunt and when she came back i asked if everything was ok. She was out of breath and said yes i just ran after that couple because the wife left her purse and they were leaving on vacation in the morning. wow now thats great service. I just want to say thank you Elise for being who you are! Pros: Wonderful service Cons: parking more

Great deals for your birthday! 2/14/2008

I came here, not so much for the food, but for the drinks. They have all you can drink (drinks may change, call ahead of time and ask about their specials) until a 9pm, along with the free drinks for the birthday person, they also provide a meal/appetizer deal (only for the birthday person) They should expand their restuarant/bar. Pros: Drinks Cons: Restuarant should be bigger more

biggest UN appreciative wait staff EVER 1/23/2008

not to be on the rude side but when you run up a huge tab in comparisson to the other patrons of this place and you tip big. you dont even get a thank you. the wait staff even tries to defend the other staff by saying you are wrong. they must have done it. I was there with several friends and they all agreed that it was quite rude. The wild onion had staff that accuses people of being something they are not. The barttenders before the night crew were much more courteous and friendly. Mr. Mike on a power trip needs to get schooled on how to be a manager. Pros: food, drinks Cons: staff, prices more

(Was) my favorite place in st. paul 11/18/2007

This is a long review but please read so the same thing doesn't happen to you. Pros: decor, FOOD, Cons: Waitstaff is fraudulent more

Still a Great Weekend Bar 3/3/2007

So my girlfriends and I used to always frequent the Wiid Onion in college- (2003-2005) but haven't been back until last night (Friday, March 3). We came in around ten pm, and the atmosphere already seemed fun. We sat at a table by the bar and had appetizers and drinks. The food, as I remembered, was great. And I don't just mean for bar food. I was also impressed by the service. All the waitresses and bartenders seemed to be in a good mood, even when it got pretty busy after midnight. I was also glad to see that none of them were dressed nearly as trashy as they used to, none of that mini skirt/high boot combo that we all used to make fun of. The DJ was also great and the dance floor was just as fun as I remembered. We all had a great time partying like we still were in college. Pros: fun waitstaff/ bartenders Cons: lots of drunks late night more

Good drinks, great food and okay service! 11/22/2006

I went to The Wild Onion for the first time last night with a few friends. We had a heard a lot about the place and decided to check it out. I liked the place as soon as I walked in! It was pretty classy but not so much that you would need to dress up to go there. It was a little hard to find a seat and nobody really directed us to a certain table or anything so we kind of felt like dorks circling the restaurant a few times. After we found a table we were greeted right away by a server and got our drinks pretty quickly. She did a good job checking on us and replenishing our drinks quickly. We all kind of thought the server was kind of snobby, but not the worst I've ever had! I really enjoyed the music that the DJ was playing. The food was amazing!! And the drinks were nice and cold. I thought the prices were reasonable as well. All and all a good experience and I would definitely go again and plan to soon! I would recommend The Wild Onion to anyone, check it out!! Pros: Great food, cold drinks, nice atmosphere, great music! Cons: Service was just so-so and we waited quite a while to get our food. more

How to have fun at the Wild Onion 11/19/2006

Here's why you go to the Wild Onion: To get a few drinks and make fun of the girls with muffin-tops and their overly hair gelled boyfriends. It sounds mean, I know, But it's fun. more

Good Neighborhood Place 10/21/2006

I went to the Wild Onion for the first time this week. I enjoyed my experience. I had the walleye rueben. It was delicious. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The drinks were okay, but not terrible. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Pros: Good food, Good service Cons: Drinks are so-so more

Rude waitstaff, trashy atmosphere 8/30/2006

A friend and I stopped in for dinner while shopping on Grand. The food was fine, nothing too special. The most disturbing part of the experience was the waitstaff. Not only were they dressed entirely too revealing, but they came across actually trashy and rude. I don't feel like mini-skirts and tall black socks are appropriate and neither is wearing your hair down as a server or applying lipstick in the dining room mirrors. The worst part of the experience was when we frequented the establishment that Friday evening with friends of ours. Standing at the bar after ordering a drink I was litterly smacked by a cocktail waitress, very purposefully. This very rude, oh so much better than me server, actually shoved me out of her way. I would rather have her yell at me to move than physically move my body. When I said something to my group of friends, she got up in my face and confronted me. As a former server and cocktail server, I could never even imagine confronting a customer, let alone one minding her own business. She then proceeded to harrass me the entire night, making snood comment as she walked by our table. We also saw her demanding a tip from another customer, also speaking to him rudely. This waitress should not have a job. The service and treatment paired with the trashy atmosphere will keep me from ever even approaching the door again. Save yourself from the horrendous experience that is ""the wild onion"". Pros: okay for bar food, we liked the lettuce wraps best Cons: bad service more

don't believe these idiots panning the Wild Onion 8/4/2006

I never write reviews on sites like this, but I liked this place so much -- and no I don't have any financial or personal connection to it - that I decided to weigh in. All of these people complaining about the service and food here are clueless. It's a very classy place with great food; I bet a lot of these people complaining are obnoxious people or drunks who didn't get treated like royalty, and can't figure out why. Check out the Wild Onion. You won't be sorry. Pros: just about everything more

SERVICE SUCKS!!! 4/5/2006

We were there in the middle of the day and ordered lunch. I think there was maybe only three other tables that had people at them. Service was terrible, not only did she get our food wrong, she was so slow.... so slow..... It took her a good 10 minutes to even ask us what we wanted to drink. She dropped them off and didn't come back for a long while. Never asked us how our food was. It was average if even that. Then to get the bill we had to send a flair up in the air to get her attention (okay not really but almost). We gave her a penny for our thoughts. (That napkin hopefully will give her some tips on better service). Pros: parking Cons: service, staff more

worst experience ever 3/8/2006

i am glad after reading a few other reviews that i am not the only one who has had bad service at this establishment. i dont understand how they can go about thinking they can push their guests around and be so rude to them. i was yelled at by one waitress to ""MOVE!!!"" while standing at the bar. have you ever heard of ""excuse me""? and i told her she didnt need to yell at me-i didnt know i was in her way. i informed her that i was also a waitress and i would never yell at any of my customers. she didnt look me in the eye, and she mumbled an apology. wow. apology not accepted. the second time was the bartender who yelled at my friend. my friend was going to leave a tip but i told him NOT to. you tip for good service. Cons: bad service, bad service, bad service more

love the onion 10/12/2005

The Wild Onion is an awesome place to dance and meet people. The music is great and the staff is great. DJ Eve rocks. I would highly recommend going. more

Great place for birthdays or anytime 9/14/2005

I like this place-here's why. You can come to this trendy, stylish place on a Tuesday night and run into people you haven't seen in a long time. It's a place to see and be seen, especially on Tuesday nights when not a lot is going on in other places. I love their drinks, food and ambiance. It's trendy like Grand Avenue in fabulous St. Paul tends to be, and the menu is diversified. I would take friends there for a night out and impress them with it's look and feel. Great for large groups on a birthday or special occasiona when you want to dance the night away!! Highly recommened!! more

Definitely recommended! 8/31/2004

Very unique menu! Many items I have never seen at other restaurants, like the Wrigley Field Pastrami, the Steak Diane, and the Reddened Chicken. Also, be sure to try their mashed potatoes- They have a featured flavor each day, and are excellent! Late night is great too! Many college kids- a great place to meet people and dance the night away! Pros: Great Food, DJ every night, B-day specials more

Good Lunch 8/11/2004

I stopped by on a week day for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was really cool (I'll have to come back some evening) and the service was excellent. I tried the ceasar chicken sandwich and loved it. Even my glass of iced tea was above par. Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere more
