Whittier Medical Ctr

Why is it that I being a nurse 7 hours away...am hearing the horrors of BAD Nursing care that any decent nurse can recognize yet the ones that work hear dont seem to face and fix. My Daughters BF was in a accident and SADLY was brought here. She sat on the floor for days before I said WHAT ABOUT A Sleeping Chair and they only then brought one. He had a leaking IV and when He asked for it to be addressed the nurse stupidly discouraged a new IV as he would have to be POKED again. WHO CARES> his morphine infiltrating or the complications of a phlebitis is NOT going to help him recover or the hospital avoid problems. Nurses did not come with lights and CNAs only sighed when asked to make bed, get towel, help out. No one offered a incentive Spirometer post op (come on pretty standard) and now this healthy 24 year old has 102.5 fever. When requesting a dr...nurses actually said there is NO ONE to call until morning....What the hell do they do with a code??? Shaking my head in same for my fellow nurses. more

Whittier Hospital Medical Center, while conveniently located between Whittier and La Habra, is not the hospital to choose, if given the choice. Amid previous and maybe ongoing financial problems, you would think this place would step up on the treatment of their patients in order to boost their reputation. However, the times I have had to go here...twice for having children, and spaced ten years apart, both yielded the same results...disappointment, frustration and the desire to just get the heck out! The nurses (the ones I dealt with) are nasty...very unfriendly and unprofessional. It doesn't seem as clean and safe as Presbyterian hospital (also in Whittier) does. As far as giving birth goes, it seems as though they are trying to bribe people to choose them...I was given a bassinet for delivering there. But given the chance, I would have definitely picked Presbyterian, where you get your own room and way nicer nurses! more
