Martial = Combat | Art = Beauty 2/26/2009

I know in person many top personalities in different Martial Arts system but I finally decided on sticking with the tried and tested Kung Fu system. I learned that learning martial arts don't have to be rough and dirty, but can be graceful with tremendous power and accuracy. And that, White Dragon Temecula can deliver. With combine private instruction to multiple group classes, you'll gain so much in understanding the proper way to strike and kick with maximum effectivity. From learning the basic punches, blocks and kicks, you'll also learn ground fighting, full contact sparring, joint locking, weapon usage, full impact and conditioning classes as well as weapon sparring. Pros: It is a complete system of Martial Arts Cons: Be ready to get exhausted and sweat a lot more

BY FAR, THE BEST TRADITIONAL KUNG FU SCHOOL IN SO CAL 2/25/2009

ABSOLUTELY the best gift I have given to my child!!!!! I could only wish I have known this school any sooner....I have waisted 2 years in some other place that is all business focus as suppose to teaching. Nevertheless, my child has learned way more in the last 4 months compared to the last 2 years with the other school. They are teaching traditional martial arts, concentrating more on practical self defense techniques that you can use in any situation at a given place and time. This is not a sport, this is the real deal!!!! The instructors are very dedicated and very well trained. You have to see it to belive it!!! This is a school that will help you achieve outstanding physical fitness and builds character ( motivation, decipline, proficiency, self confidence and esprit de corps). Pros: 1 on 1 instruction guaranteed, wide range of classes to choose from. Cons: Nothing. more

THE ONLY *REAL* KUNG FU SCHOOL IN TEMECULA/MURRIETA 2/13/2009

If you want TRADITIONAL CHINESE KUNG FU, then this is the ONLY SCHOOL in Temecula/Murrieta. In 2003, I first visited the school and was blown away. I recognized so many things that they did authentically, like an Ancestor Wall and a wooden dummy! These people really do follow an authentic lineage. I?ve seen wanna-be martial arts schools that say they?re doing a certain martial art but can tell that they?re making it up as they go. No, the guy who did my intro lesson and who eventually became my Sifu, showed me how to use the body to put power in strikes. I just thought that fighting was only about striking as hard as you could, but he showed me how to twist waist first, then shoulders to throw stronger attacks. He let me thump a mitt to let me hear the difference in sound/impact I was doing it his way. They had this wall full of weapons that you see in Jet Li movies (spears, swords, horsecutters, etc). Those weapons weren?t for show?people actually trained with those weapons! I asked the guy (now my Sifu) why they?d want to train with those since you?re not going to be walking down the street with a sword. He said that yeah, you?re not going to be carrying a sword, but learning how to use one teaches you how to use a short club or flashlight, which uses the same wrist movements as the sword. You train in the sword AND GET PRACTICAL, SELF-DEFENSE OUT OF IT. THEY TEACH YOU HOW TO USE A STICK AT THE SAME TIME YOU LEARN THE SWORD SO YOU SEE HOW ALIKE THEY ARE. The style of kung fu was ?Choy Li Fut,? which I?d never heard of, but when I went home and asked my parents about it, they immediately recognized the name. They said it was famous for its ferocity. I tried their group and kicking classes and got a better workout than I did running/weightlifting. Group and kicking classes (1/2 hr each=1 hr total) are 6 days a week. The higher belt you get, the more classes are available for no extra charge, like sparring, lion dancing, etc. Pros: Great studio, personal 1 on 1 instruction by professionals who care about you. Cons: This place is hard-core, but fun. If you don't like to sweat, then don't try it. more

Best Kung Fu School in Riv. Co; complete training; awesome staff 3/25/2008

I started my search for a Kung Fu school several years ago, after deciding that I wanted to learn the 'original' martial art, rather than a watered-down version. Upon moving to Temecula two years ago, I discovered White Dragon. I visited their website, and went to talk to the head instructor. I was pleased with the reverent feel of the school, and even more pleased with the way I was treated. I signed up my children first, to see how things went, and then I joined as a student three months later. Sifu John Houseman and his staff are friendly, professional, and extremely well-versed in the history and practice of Choy Li Fut style Kung Fu and Yang style Tai Chi. Unlike so many martial arts schools, White Dragon does not focus on competition and sport, but trains its students to use practical and effective self-defense techniques. In addition to unlimited group classes for every age, White Dragon offers something other schools do not: Private instruction as part of every student's curriculum. This ensures that each student learns the curriculum in a way that is most meaningful to them, rather than assuming that all people learn in the same manner. My children and I have been attending for over a year now, and we are very close to our fellow students and instructors. White Dragon Temecula is my 'home away from home', and my study of Kung Fu and Tai Chi has helped me in more ways than one. I have lost approx. 65 lbs since beginning my training, and have developed an inner strength I did not know I possessed. Choy Li Fut Kung Fu is a 'complete' style which utilizes elements from both Northern and Southern China; this style was noted by Bruce Lee as one of the most difficult to defend against. Yang style Tai Chi is one of the most popular styles of Tai Chi practiced today, and has additional spiritual and health benefits. I have gained so much from my studies; I would recommend this school to anyone who is serious about martial arts. Pros: Personalized instruction, wide range of classes to choose from Cons: Location and lack of parking...get there early!! more
