If you want TRADITIONAL CHINESE KUNG FU, then this is the ONLY SCHOOL in Temecula/Murrieta. In 2003, I first visited the school and was blown away. I recognized so many things that they did authentically, like an Ancestor Wall and a wooden dummy! These people really do follow an authentic lineage. I?ve seen wanna-be martial arts schools that say they?re doing a certain martial art but can tell that they?re making it up as they go. No, the guy who did my intro lesson and who eventually became my Sifu, showed me how to use the body to put power in strikes. I just thought that fighting was only about striking as hard as you could, but he showed me how to twist waist first, then shoulders to throw stronger attacks. He let me thump a mitt to let me hear the difference in sound/impact I was doing it his way. They had this wall full of weapons that you see in Jet Li movies (spears, swords, horsecutters, etc). Those weapons weren?t for show?people actually trained with those weapons! I asked the guy (now my Sifu) why they?d want to train with those since you?re not going to be walking down the street with a sword. He said that yeah, you?re not going to be carrying a sword, but learning how to use one teaches you how to use a short club or flashlight, which uses the same wrist movements as the sword. You train in the sword AND GET PRACTICAL, SELF-DEFENSE OUT OF IT. THEY TEACH YOU HOW TO USE A STICK AT THE SAME TIME YOU LEARN THE SWORD SO YOU SEE HOW ALIKE THEY ARE. The style of kung fu was ?Choy Li Fut,? which I?d never heard of, but when I went home and asked my parents about it, they immediately recognized the name. They said it was famous for its ferocity. I tried their group and kicking classes and got a better workout than I did running/weightlifting. Group and kicking classes (1/2 hr each=1 hr total) are 6 days a week. The higher belt you get, the more classes are available for no extra charge, like sparring, lion dancing, etc.
Pros: Great studio, personal 1 on 1 instruction by professionals who care about you.
Cons: This place is hard-core, but fun. If you don't like to sweat, then don't try it.
