I don't know about you, but beholding a gorgeous Hudson Valley sunset or the bright stars above in the night has a tremendously healing affect on me, helping me to deal with the daily assaults of the big city, especially these days. So I guess it's time to share my best kept secret hideaway with others, who like me might need a place nearby (read; no air travel hassles) to unwind, rejuvenate and regroup. My man and I have been coming here for the last 15 yrs to enjoy the peace, beauty, and comfort of this exceptional B&B. Not at all fussy, but tastefully and unpretentiously decorated. By car, we usually get there from the Upper East side in under 2 hours. Nothing but pastures, gardens, woodlands, birds, critters and horses surrounding us in 4 directions. Generous breakfasts are served daily along with an all-day dessert table that is impossible to resist. We spend most of our time in our cozy & spacious ""high-end rustic room"" with fireplace, on the grounds or in the common areas talking to other guests who love it here as much as we do. For all the owner's and innkeeper's love of animals, they maintain impeccable housekeeping. You'd never know it's an animal friendly inn, too. If you are ""foodies"" like us, Rhinebeck won't disappoint you in the restaurant department. With the Culinary Institute so close by in Hyde Park, the standard is very high for local fine cuisine. I could go on and on. We just love this place.
Pros: Spacious, comfortable, private, great local dining, charming & unobtrusive innkeepers
Cons: I hate leaving Whistlewood.
