I had read the bad reviews on this site, prior to going to this restaurant, but decided to try it anyway. I am so glad I did. Not only was the view spectacular, but my server was wonderful. She suggested one of the evenings features also the crabcakes. My husband and i took her suggestion and we are so glad we did. The food and dessert were great, but the service was even better. I will be going back and I will ask for the same server everytime! more

I looked forward to having Mother's Day dinner with my children at this particular restaurant which had been so highly recommended. We had made reservations weeks in advance. My daughter was meeting us there. My son and I were shown to a table on the water (great view). When my daughter arrived, she was shown to an inside table. Despite alerting the hostess and several waiters that we were waiting for each other, no one on the staff bothered to make sure that we were seated together. There was no reservation list to let us know who had come or gone. It was totally disorganized. We all ended up leaving without finding each other or ever getting to eat. It ruined the holiday for the whole family. This kind of inepitude is inexcusable. We will not be back. There are plenty of other restaurants with nice water views. My husband and I have been eating at the Castaway for years. Whenever we are in town to catch the Phillie's Spring Training games - we make sure to make a stop at this restaurant. We waited 15 minutes to be seated - the restaurant was 90% empty at the time, our waitress never told us the kitchen ran out of baked potatoes and brought vegetables without asking and the filet was undercooked. In asking the waitress to have the chef cook it a little longer - she brought us out rubber. It was a terrible experience. My husband didn't eat any of his meal - yet the waitress never asked if there was a problem and charged us full price for everything. The food & service at this restaurant are pitiful. Waiting 1 ½ hours to receive over cooked and over priced food is absurd, followed by wait staff that says the kitchen is having a bad night, followed by a manager that does not care. $25.00 for a New York Strip steak that was so overcooked. Shrimp, Scallops, Lobster all overcooked without an apology or even an offer to replace. We spoke to four or five other tables everyone had the same complaint lousy service, lousy food. Tried it on V-day. We got a 10 pm reservation. Got there in time but were told that they're half hour behind. There were many couples waiting before us. After twenty minutes or so, they started calling (or yelling) out the names, rudely. When the waiter knew we were just gonna order dessert (not our fault they couldn't get us an earlier appointment), she made a comment that it's ok but with loud and different tone. She didn't take the order right the first time and it took her forever to bring them. Everything in that restaurant needs a big overhaul, from the carpet, the decoration, even the wait staffs. Surprisingly, they charge too much. I don't know if it's because of V-day but my husband said it's always been like that. I'm so glad we didn't have dinner there. We ducked into this restaurant on a whim & were glad we did! We were seated by a window by the water and heard "Good luck! Yesterday we saw dolphins out there & it doesn't happen often but today maybe you'll be lucky too!" While waiting for our food we saw fish, seagulls, pelicans & a stingray swimming in clear view! A blast! To top it off, just to the side of my vision I thought I saw something move in the water but when I glanced over... nothing! Then it happened again & to our delight dolphins broke water & showed off for all to see! The food & drinks were #1 & the sea life was icing on the cake! Prices reasonable & servings hefty! We've gone back & didn't see dolphins but the food, drinks & service were just as good! Great place to take out-of-towners!! Pros: The View, The Food, The Staff Cons: None! more

I have come to this restaurant over the past 3 years numerous times, and have had a great experience every time. The view is amazing, the service and food is always great. Okay, this restaurant has done nothing but go DOWN HILL in the past 2 years. The food quality is horrible, the menu is now a la carte, which means for about $25 you get a 5 ounce portion of Grouper and the garnish, but you get the option to add a side dish, salad and bread for additional charges. The management is horrible, the service is slow. Average time for an appetizer is 25 minutes. The kitchen can't keep up with the few guests they have to serve. Wonderful Sunday Brunch Buffet, everything you could imagine to eat, prepared to your liking in front of you! Dine inside or outside overlooking a GORGEOUS view of the beach and water! An extremely good place to go after a night of fun on the Town. Plan on dressing up for this one, quite a nice experience altogether. more

The Castaway is one of the best restaurants in the Tampa Bay area for atmosphere & food. The location is breathtaking & the menu is excellent. This is definitely a restaurant for a special occasion as well as a night out. It is particularly nice for Valentine's Day, anniversaries, etc. I believe they take reservations which makes the evening that much more special, allowing you to plan your evening without waiting to eat. more

I was not impressed with this restraunt at all. The food was decent, but not worth the going price. I also have had isses with the service. In high school, a small group of my friends and I had reservations for six for pre-homecoming dinner. though there was presently, NO ONE else waiting, my party was told that our table was not ready, and to be seated. We waited over half an hour right in front of the hostesses station before i could get the attention of a manager and get us seated. Nedless to say, I was not happy, and managment only offered apologies, nothing on the house. I definately recommend against this restrautn for high school groups more
