Whale's Tale Restaurant

I feel like I ate at a different restaurant than all these people. Maybe the locals get different service than tourists. I expected overpriced and average-tasting food, but this restaurant still disappointed. The service was slow, slow, slow - it was probably 15 minutes before we got water and a menu and another 15 minutes before our order was taken...and the restaurant was not even close to full. I ordered crab cakes and they had no visible crab pieces at all. They also had no discernible crab flavor. $15 is pretty high for what tasted like hush puppies. Pros: um... We ate at The Whales Tale on Sunday, August 30th 2009 and had a fabulous dining experience! The service was most excellent! The waiter was very attentive to our needs. The atmosphere was very nice. The food (captains platter) was very tasty and well done. The portions were good sized. The desert was the bagged mousse and I almost melted. This ranks as one of the most perfect dining experiences I have ever had. Great food! Good portions Great desert! Great service! My husband and I left feeling full and satisfied. We will be back. The shrimp omelette takes you to heaven for about 20 minutes. It's not just heavenly . . . it IS heaven. Wow! Pros: Best food and best service around. Cons: Not across the street from my house more

Whales Tale Restaurant in Newport, Oregon looks like a nice place to eat. Located in historic bayfront. When you arrive you will notice that they only have one waitress. It will take about 30 minutes before you recieve your water or drinks and for them to take your order. The menu will provide you with expensive choices and when your food arrives the quality and amount of food you get might surprise you. The food is disgusting and you get nothing for you money. Their seafood in undercooked and has no flavor. If you happen to get a seafood platter, you will get maybe 2 shrimp if your lucky. It looks large because they pile a large amount of horrible rice underneath it to make it appealing. We had a great dinner at the Whales Tale last week.Great decor, salmon, and excellent service. We came back the next day for a fantastic breakfast of poppy seed pancakes and crab omelet. Rumor is that they might be opening a Whale's Tale in Portland. WOW Pros: Great food, clam chowder, and mousse in the bag dessert. Cons: Can only eat there when we go to the coast. more
