I'm rarely moved to review anything publicly, but on the other hand, I've rarely encountered a place that was so terribly incompetent at handling its stated function.
My father's funeral was held at Wetzler's last month. It was an unexpected death, and my family and I were not prepared to handle putting together a funeral. Too bad, because we had to: the funeral director gave us absolutely zero help. He spent pretty much every minute I was in his presence on the telephone. At one point, I fainted, and he did nothing: he didn't have smelling salts (or, possibly, even know what they were).
The viewing was in total disarray: nothing was set up so there was a flow of people, or a place for us to sit down; my family ended up completely separated from each other and none of the guests knew where to go. The central doors were closed and locked so that the viewing line ended up doubling back on itself and creating a bottleneck. There was no water for us to drink; we had to have the mourners bring us chairs and water.
The funeral director, again, was nowhere to be found during the viewing or the funeral. I think I saw him chatting on the phone as my family helped me to the car.
This funeral home, to me, was pretty much the epitome of inconsiderate and incompetent. You'd think a funeral director's job would be to step up and get things done in a family's time of need. Not the case at Wetzler's.
