Our new favorite 5/16/2010

Westside Tavern has taken the spot as my favorite casual restaurant in town. Everything on the menu is delicious, the ambiance is great, and the staff is always friendly (I'm always greeted with a ""welcome back"" by the hostesses - nice touch). With no reservations accepted, there's always a 30-60 min wait, but the bar is gigantic and a nice place to have drinks/apps. Now I bring everyone here, and have never had something on the menu all didn't love! The creamy polenta with gorgonzola side dish is ridiculous - you won't need the extra food, but get it anyways. Try the fried string beans for an appetizer, any of the flatbreads, or the daily soup, which is always surprisingly hearty and fresh. And the donuts for dessert are amazing (I think better than Rustic Canyon's) Pros: Delicious Menu, Friendly Staff, Great for Date-Night more

Great portions!! 2/19/2010

This is a family favorite. Everyone can find something to eat. I like their salads while my husband prefers the Lasagna. I can barely finish my serving and seem to always have leftovers. Great restaurant. Pros: Great tasting food Cons: parking more

Exceptional Everything! 8/15/2009

Judging by the crowds here, it seems that everyone knows about and is enjoying Westside Tavern. We stopped in on a busy Friday and managed a spot at the bar. I'm so used to bad service that I wasn't expecting to be treated so quickly, courteously and efficiently. We started with the Cucumber and Blackberry cocktail - they were beautifully prepared, delicious and a steal at $10 (Places like Varnish are charging double for the same drink). We then ordered the pan seared halibut entree and a side of roasted beets with ricotta. The halibut came with pesto on top that is the BEST I've ever had. My girlfriend and I were looking at each other everytime we took a bite - we couldn't believe how good the food tasted. The side dish was exceptional as well. The prices here are an absolute bargain for what you get. I thought this place was going to be Houston's-esque but WT wins in a first-round knock-out. Not even close. We are already planning a return. It's right below the best movie theater in LA (Landmark), and you get an educated, upscale crowd. No riff raff, no LA attitude - just good times. Pros: Food, price, people, drinks, service, location, parking Cons: Didn't encounter one more

Great place for dinner then a movie 8/1/2009

We live on the Westside and when we want to see a movie, we almost always go to the Landmark Theater and have dinner at Westside Tavern first - I think this may be the best 1-2-Punch around. The beer list is big and good, and plenty on tap (Pranqster). The food is delicious. The price is right - you can't miss. Pros: location, food, staff, scene, beer list Cons: crowded at times more

definitely a good addition to the pedestrian mall. 7/20/2009

This was a pit stop while waiting for friends to see a movie at the Landmark. Nice, modern decor with lots of dark wood. Massively long bar that stretched pretty much the length of the dining room, comfy booths that also seemed private despite the size. There was also an area by the window looking out on to Pico blvd. for people to check out passerbys. All in all the ambiance lends itself to intimate conversations, not loud raucous shenanigans. Had a few beers while waiting for friends and the bartender was very accommodating letting me try samplings of the beers on tap. Also he was knowledgeable of the different beers, taste and characteristics in order to find beers that were to my tastes. This is a definite recommendation. However, haven't had the chance to actually sit down and have a meal here so no reviews on service and food yet. Pros: Nice atmosphere, good spacing and decor Cons: Only had drinks, so no cons atm. more
