I have a family member living at this retirement community. This facility is not bad, BUT, it COULD be improved upon. There needs to be MORE staff, I believe, especially during the evening AND that evening staff NEEDS to be seen - - by residents AND by the residents' family members when they are there in the evenings. Another words, the evening staff doesn't need to 'hide' in one room - - they need to be walking around checking to make sure the residents are ok and don't need anything, etc. This facility has too many exotic birds. These birds COULD carry diseases that may be transmitted to the residents. The birds ARE popular with some residents, though. However, I am thinking ONLY of the residents' safety. There is one exotic bird that is by the dining room/kitchen and I believe that is VERY unsanitary. IF they are going to have a bird like that, it needs to be moved AWAY from the dining room/kitchen. We have found two roaches crawling on this birdcage - - - which is EVEN MORE unsanitary in our opinion. Roaches carry diseases and the residents certainly do NOT need to catch ANY disease by these roaches. The meals are skimpy. "Watered-down" soup is served to the residents EVERY supper. Most residents refuse to even eat this. The residents SHOULD be allowed to choose what they want to eat for their three meals - - NOT told they are eating a certain kind of food. If a resident doesn't like a certain food, they SHOULD be allowed to choose something else from a Menu.
