We walked away from a deal with Westlund Buick in February 2008. Was going to buy a truck that was reduced as it had sat on the lot for 2 plus months. Truck looked and handled fine, problem was the overwhelming dirty dog smell. Even though vehicle had been cleaned there were still errant hairs in the cabin. When we pulled the back seats down, no cleaning had been done. Enough hair to cover a small dog was found plastered and heaped on the back of the seats. The head phones for the Video Entertainment system were also found there. The video system did not work. Salesman originally told us truck was on lot for only 3 weeks. We found the truth in the negotiation process and challenged him on it. This was just the beginning of this odd negotiation. The dealership would not let us take the truck to our own mechanic to check it out. We were told that was not the policy of the dealership. This was just about a deal breaker, although the car did come with a 30 day warranty. The salesman balked at our request to take an offer for $950 less than the cost to the manager. Finally came down another $200.00 for internet find and $150 off for us to fix the Video Entertainment System. The deal breaker came when we were told they would not detail/clean the truck because their sales margin was at the bare bones. In other words we were supposed to take home the reeking dog hair/smell truck and detail it ourselves. All the time our salesman is telling us we are getting a great deal and anything we find wrong we can fix because of the good deal. Also was told that I worry too much, because I want my own mechanic to check out truck and not take their word for fitness. One other bizarre note, salesman said he had already spent quite a bit of time with us, 1.5 hours at this point. We told him that was his job. Would never, ever go back to that dealership.
Pros: If you want to buy from your grandfathers type of dealership
Cons: Worst cleaning of vehicle and salemanship I've ever dealt with in 30 plus years of buying vehicles.
