Editorial review from Citysearch 9/17/2013

Our 3 year old Labrador retriever was bitten at this facility and we are very disappointed with how it was handled. The staff informed us that he was “nipped” at because he was sniffing another dog (which I thought was somewhat normal dog behavior.) Our dog suffered far more than a “nip” as he currently has two very large puncture wounds on his back. The vet informed us that given the depth of the wound, she was guessing the attacking dog had sank almost her entire front canines into my dogs back. To make matters even worse, the dog that delivered this bite is a regular daycare attendee. \r Of course we understand that accidents can occur when multiple dogs are placed together, but the fact that we were not informed of this incident is completely unacceptable to me. We discovered the wound 4 days after it occurred due to the fact that it had become infected. Upon raising our concern about the bite to the staff, it was as if they were blaming us for not catching it earlier. We didn’t realize we needed to be checking our dog for wounds when he returned from daycare, so keep that in mind if you do bring your dog to this facility. You will want to look them over thoroughly when they get home to ensure that they haven’t been bitten or attacked while at the Well Mannered Dog. \r more

Great Place to Board Your Dog! 12/28/2012

The Well-Mannered Dog has been great for our three dogs. We have an Akita that tends to chase little dogs and they are smart enough to keep him away from the "squirrely" dogs yet he is still allowed to have his freedom. When we go to pick them up they are having the time of their lives running in packs with the other dogs. We couldn't be happier with this place! more

Abuse? No, thank you. 10/12/2012

I am disappointed in this facility. I had been trusting this business for over a year with my dog and he was coming home injured, thirsty, and worst of all, unrelieved. It is sad to think that I have subjected my pet to this abuse. Worst of all, the "trainers" would stuff him in a room. What am I paying for? I am paying for him to be socialized. This will never happen when he is in a room by himself.\r \r The list goes on and on. He caught kennel cough here. This is the only place I had take my dog as my schedule is limited, and all the other dogs had it. When he got better (vet checked to make sure), I stupidly took him back for a "playdate", only to hear they "disciplined" him with a PRONG COLLAR, stuffed him once again in a room, and did not take him outside to be relieved. Unbelievable. He was whining the entire way home and wouldn't let me pet him. (He would veer away from my hand, and I finally was able to scratch under his chin where he likes it and he did NOT want it) more

Finally a world class dog training facility in Grand Rapids 12/10/2011

If you want something fun to do with your dog, want to train for competition, or just want basic manners, this training facility is the place. There is also dog boarding and day care and tons of expertise in every facet of ""doggie-ness."" It's clean, well-maintained, well staffed, and a real asset to the dog community in Grand Rapids. more
