A hidden gem well worth finding! 2/29/2008

My husband and I (Austinites) have dined at the Welfare many times over the past four years. The food is phenomenal - on par with what you'd expect from a fine-dining establishment in any major city. Creative specials, excellent wine list and knowledgeable, attentive staff. Truly one of the best dining experiences in the Hill Country. more than worth the drive. more

This is a can't miss place when you are looking for a great escape from the big, bad City and cookie cutter national chains on TV dinner like menus. It is well worth the traveling time, a scenic drive that once off the highway, is a bit soothing. Pros: Creative & Tasty Menu; Comfortable, Relaxing Ambience; Superb Service Cons: Distance in getting there, try it as it can become a decompressing Pro!! more
