Who doen't love a little southern comfort food? They have a great variety of vegetables and meats on the stove, and the food quality is good enough to make you want seconds. Plan on taking a nap after eating there! Pros: Charm, Price, Food Cons: Cramped dining room more

Weaver D's is known for the phrase "automatic for the people" that REM named an album after. And what a place it is! A little hole in the wall that doesn't look like much, but what it lacks in ambiance it makes up for with finger licking good food. You cannot get better southern cooking. Trust me. more

The quintessential 9/19/2008

It's so wonderful that Weaver D's hasn't become a tourist trap despite its now-famous name. The mac and cheese is amazing, and even though we can't often eat much else due to being vegetarian (in the South, greens come with ham), we always enjoy a trip here. more

A local--and maybe international--institution 8/24/2008

Weaver D's is nothing special to look at. The outside is currently painted bright green. The inside is a jumble of tables and chairs. But it is the real deal in Athens soul food. Go for the experience. \r \r You'll always find local people eating here, particularly students and work men, which just shows that it serves cheap, good eats. \r \r Of course, it's most famous for its Automatic for the People sign and Mr. Weaver is more than happy to talk to customers about the sign and REM. more

Delicious Fine Foods 3/8/2008

The name of the place says it all -- Weaver Ds is THE place in Athens to go for good ol' southern cooking. The REM album "Automatic for the People" is named after the sign outside of this place. It is always filled with people looking for some delicious fried chicken and caramel cake for dessert. The lemonade and sweet tea are classic. It's a great place to bring non-Southerners who want to experience the real deal. more
